What is the movie that came out before you were born that you've watched the most times? I used to watch Metropolis on the local college TV station every time it came on, which was often.

Earth-kun, the Tokyo Sewerage Bureau mascot, is a globe with a manhole cover hat.

A smiling globe mascot with widespread arms and a manhole cover hat stands on a pavement in front of some trees.

A lot of writers, readers, booksellers, etc. on the website are talking about how book bans have a disproportionate impact on living BIPOC/queer/trans authors, and it's true. But a lot of people don't know where to find those books. That's why, this year, I'm going to make a thread for you!

I was working with JJ on a project after he moved to IA. Hearing what he'd been through at IL, then watching IA perpetuate the pain and make it worse was heartrending. Academic institutions need to think hard about their decision to follow business models of employment. We're losing excellent folks.

A few more days left to submit writing for my collab zine "Act Your Age: Fandom at 35+ and Beyond - Vol. 4" This issue is focused on toxic fandoms. Find out more and submit something below! All contributors get two copies of the zine. Deadline: Oct 9 tinyurl.com/ActYrAge4

A square promotional graphic with a bright yellow border and a black background. Large white text at the top reads, “ZINE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ACT YOUR AGE: FANDOM AT 35+ AND BEYOND – VOL 4.”

The graphic asks, “Were you a fan before stan culture took over the internet?” and invites thoughts on “toxic fandoms, celebrity obsession, parasocial relationships, online pile-ons, or how fandom has changed?” A white speech bubble near the upper right contains the word “Toxic!” in yellow handwritten-style lettering with a black shadow.

Additional text says the zine is looking for personal essays, stories, comics, art, and other creative work from fans age 35 and older reflecting on fandom, past and present.

A large underlined link near the bottom reads “tinyurl.com/ActYrAge4.” The bottom right reads, “Deadline: Oct 9, 2026.”

The problem with this entire “talking across difference” approach to politics is that it assumes a shared consensus about democracy that no longer exists b/w the 2 main 🇺🇸 political parties. You don’t need to have lunch with people who don’t believe in free elections, equal rights, & the rule of law.

Democracy is a system in which parties lose elections
