With this particular piece (which is in The Cut if you are desperate to read), I think we're also seeing the effect of fanfiction without community. When you're actually *in* fandom, you all share ideas and enthusiasm together. When you just consume in isolation, you write....whatever this is.

I personally place 90% of the blame with this drivel on the editors, not the writers. With my editor hat on, I could imagine reshaping this piece into something meaningful rather than aggressively self-hating/pathologizing. (No, the ~I guess I feel less shame~ bit at the end doesn't solve it.)
