I went to a trade Christmas show last month which had a beautiful chess set where you could play against an AI, and it would move the pieces for you. About £400 and looked like magic. (There is no point in my doing this; my brother and I spent years playing to check without realising.)

Chess is fascinating. I listened to the audiobook of The Queen's Gambit earlier this year, having loved the TV show (both so good!) and the film Queen of Katwe (plus the musical, obv). And Ali Hazelwood wrote a brilliant YA novel, Check & Mate, about teenage players, which is utterly engrossing.

Regardless of when we bloody got it, thank you, driving an electric car has improved so much in just two years, especially with the advent of charging cables you can hook up to a regular plug socket. I have very happily driven to the middle of nowhere without range anxiety as a result.

I used to love and respect her writing and then she became a transphobic bloodhound as and now, inevitably, they’ve moved onto ADHD etc. A classic! I’m interviewing someone about adhd tomorrow and looking forward to talking about this total bollocks. (Aided by my own meds and systems, thankfully.)

I saw this absolutely splendid driftwood dragon walking to West Angle Bay this morning - what a resplendent item!

A totally resplendent dragon made from driftwood with great big clawed feet and a forked tongue and a very proud bearing. It is in Angle, Pembrokeshire in Wales.
