I missed it earlier, is the whole discord about pulling starters in the postseason? That discourse is a really easy one. If bullpen blows it, the manager was dumb. If SP blows it, the manager was dumb. If the bullpen locks it down, business as usual. If the SP keeps rolling, the SP is a star.

The last time the Reds successfully converted a save opportunity in the postseason was Game 2 of the 1995 NLDS against the Dodgers. Brett Butler, who turns 70 in 8 months, played in that game.

Yeah. Sure. The Phillies are down to their last shot. But so were the 1976 Phillies, just shy of 50 years ago. And you know what happened to them? That's right. They were called "the hollow men of the baseball postseason" by their hometown paper and swept out of the playoffs.

The narrative was they saved the season when they fired Rob, but they actually probably sunk it. They probably shouldn’t have hired Mattingly to begin with. He is a bad manager, seemingly provides nothing, and clearly operates in a way that is not collaborative with the coaches or players.

Tommy Pham is batting cleanup today, because he threatened to beat the shit out of the GM last night

@Sam_Phalen
Per
@JesseRogersESPN
, outfielder Tommy Pham was only activated by the #WhiteSox today because he saw GM Chris Getz in an elevator last night and made his case.

He's now batting cleanup for Chicago in the biggest game of the year. It's bold, that's for sure.

This is literally a plot point in “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis. Written in 1935, it predicts the rise of a fascist populist who promises each family $5,000 per year if he’s elected.
