It’s genuinely time to make Fever home games closed arena affairs with Indiana being responsible for paying out the equivalent game receipts.

it is incredible how committed to the bit they are to fall behind by double digits first this time, come storming back all the way to eventually once again take a second half double digit lead, only to immediately once again stop scoring after having done so

When are people in the sports world going to stand up and say “we would prefer the openly evil 28% approval rating president not attend our game in-person because it is a massive inconvenience for our in-person fans, a strain on local law enforcement, and harms the television product”

A football player says "glad you're here in the USA for football season, Junji Ito. Let me show you how to throw a perfect spiral." The football plater throws the ball. Ito is mesmerized. Spirals appear in his eyes and he sweats profusely. We zoom in on his face in an extreme closeup as the intensity of his terror increases.

In 1991, a trio of unheralded high schoolers - two of them younger than Cavan Sullivan is today - appeared for the USMNT. Two of them would never do so again. Their story has been lost to time. I spoke to all three of them, on @us.theguardian.com: www.theguardian.com/football/202...

‘I’m pretty sure I didn’t imagine it’: the little-known trio of high schoolers who made USMNT history
The idea of 16-year-olds like Cavan Sullivan playing for the US senior team was once unfathomable – until three teenagers appeared in a 1991 friendly

Coolest thing just happened at the shop. Guy walked in and wanted to donate a glove. He said the glove belonged to Paul Feiner. Most Minnesotans know Joe Mauer only struck out once in his high school career. Paul Feiner was the pitcher and this is the glove he wore when he did it!

Hey @raygunsite.com, new Sox/Pope shirt idea just dropped. Also a tattoo idea for any Sox fans should the Sox somehow do something wild in the playoffs.
Pope Leo pictured with captions in response to a question whether he had anything to do with the White Sox turnaround this year. He said no comment, then “great things happen in Chicago.”

The Connecticut Sun's final game is tonight. Connecticut and its fans bought into the WNBA at its low point, turning a profit when the NBA's owners saw the league as a moneypit, only to lose their team now that everyone sees big bucks in women's sports. Some thoughts on the setting of the Sun:
Surprisingly, moving the team to Connecticut worked. In 2010, the Sun became the first WNBA team to turn a profit — during a global recession, and during the league’s nadir of popularity. The casino in the middle of nowhere became a fortress. The Sun has won 64.5 percent of its home games. It developed a real fanbase and made four WNBA Finals.

The Connecticut Sun is not the first WNBA team to die. (Enjoy this haunting image of the mascots for the Sacramento Monarchs, Utah Starzz, Detroit Shock, and yes, the Houston Comets, hanging out, smiling, not realizing that death will soon come for them.)

But it’s the first WNBA team to die for this reason: Not because nobody cared, not because it couldn’t make money, not because it couldn’t find fans or win games, not because the league is shrinking … but actually because the league is growing. The Sun helped the WNBA survive, but the period of mere survival is over. The league is moving on to bigger markets and bigger money and leaving Connecticut behind.
