#LitHodgepodge I have a pretty extensive list of who I'd want on the soundtracks, but after much consideration, here's who would headline for each of my books/WIPS: Bridges of Smoke: Twenty One Pilots False Horizon: Lord Huron AP3: Phoebe Bridgers And Omega Squad: Poor Man's Poison

Good morning, #writingcommunity and #poetry lovers 💚📚 This week’s #poetrybrew ☕️ might convince you to start wearing more metaphorical purple. “Warning” by Jenny Joseph
Warning

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

#LitHodgepodge 🪦 Bolton has always been pretty sure of the broad strokes of how he's gonna die, so he might like to know when (he will be surprised) 🧠 There's one particular memory Rose would like to forget seeing ⏳ Luke would go to the past to give himself a warning

#Sniptober a little bit of ace euphoria that I don't think I've shared before! Also is ellipsus acting out on mobile for anyone else? I can't get the snippet generator to come up on wifi or 5g
Despite the bath and the fog it had laid over the mirror and window, I shivered. My hands and lips and neck burned with the memory of him, little fires all over my body, yet I wasn’t consumed. His mouth and fingers were gentle, and never strayed beyond the limits of my trepidation.

I sank deeper into the water. Warmth enveloped my body, and an unexpected giggle escaped me.

My belief in magic had never had a fighting chance, but perhaps I had been hasty. Not only did Bolton like me enough to kiss me, he liked me enough to kiss me while knowing that was all I wanted.

If that didn’t classify as a miracle, I wasn’t sure what did.

The sound of gravel crunching beneath tires interrupted my marveling.

#LitHodgepodge I cheat a bit on voice by almost exclusively writing first person, but I do think, for better or worse, that my voice is pretty identifiable. What I picked for the prompt is a Leecie POV from False Horizon
For the first time in days, I had a stomach full of real food, warm food. I’d almost forgotten its taste—eggs and bacon and toast that had never been within a mile of a fiberglass airlock. I’d never been much for breakfast food, and I vowed as I poured my second cup of coffee never to make that mistake again.

I wandered out to the front porch and sat on the brick stoop. Birds and bugs whizzed around the wooded yard on missions that had nothing to do with the downfall of society. Warm sunlight filtered through the bright orange leaves of a maple tree and mingled with the cool shade beneath it.

There was no autumn like this in Florida. My heart ached, both at the beauty and for the home I’d left behind.

The front door creaked in warning. Bolton folded himself down to sit next to me.

Now why am I getting unsolicited critique on a book that ain't even out yet 😂
Hi Julie,

I spent a little time on the Achilles Protocol page and False Horizon
is the one that stayed with me.

Because Bridges of Smoke already ties the world so strongly to blue
smoke and the biological threat, I’d be careful about letting Book 2
turn into a familiar burning-city dystopian image.

The Nashville setting could give it a new shape, while one small
visual cue from Book 1 keeps the connection intact.

With four books planned, that kind of visual rule could become more
useful with every installment.

Curious what you’re keeping from Book 1 visually.

#SunsetChat I'm deciding they are in fact in Tennessee because that's the most recent canon. So it's a hilly, wooded view on the side of a bluff overlooking a gorge. These Florida kids aren't used to heights or trees that change, so my metaphorical backyard is breathtaking to them!

Julie March @juliemarchbooks.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
#SunsetChat Leecie is pressed against the nearest tree, scowling. Bolton would really like to dance with her in the rain, but he'll settle for a damp kiss. I can't see Rose or Luke being too thrilled about getting rained on, but Rose will be excited about seeing some storm clouds!

Julie March @juliemarchbooks.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
#SunsetChat Luke is the one who goes wandering into mushroom circles, 100%. If they're in Tennessee like in book 2, he probably shouldn't be eating any berries. Mushrooms are fairly common and slightly less dangerous. Let's hope he found some chicken of the woods!
