As of 2026-09-27, the # of total jobs listed on JOE is up 5.5% from this point last year. However, last year was a tough one, so for other comparisons this year's job listings are down 27.4% from 2024, and down 32.9% from 2023. 2/9

Good news about international students
We're writing to inform you that a federal judge in Boston has issued a preliminary injunction that prevents the government's new rule eliminating Duration of Status for F and J visa holders from going into effect on
September 15.
The injunction temporarily blocks implementation of the rule while the court determines the full merits of the case. The lawsuit was filed by Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts, and NAFSA, among others.
While the injunction is in place, your Duration of Status designation remains intact, and the rule has no impact on your visa status. However, the order is not a permanent resolution; the government can appeal the judge's ruling, and there may be a lengthy legal process, which could end with the rule ultimately going into effect.

Forthcoming in the AER: "The Long-run Effect of Air Pollution on Survival" by Julian Reif and Tatyana Deryugina.
aeaweb.org
The Long-run Effect of Air Pollution on Survival
(Forthcoming Article) - Many environmental hazards have long-run health effects, but quasi-experimental studies typically measure outcomes and treatment over short time periods. We develop a new framework for quantifying the effect of air pollution exposure on life expectancy. Using daily changes in wind direction as an instrument for air pollution, we first charac- terize the dynamic mortality effects of short-run exposure. We then incorporate these estimates into a demographic model to quantify the lifelong effects of a permanent re- duction in air pollution exposure. Ninety percent of the survival benefits accrue after the first fifty years of life.
