Thread 1/n: There’s already evidence on how people learn to play these games (e.g. in the cited, but oddly not discussed, papers by Blume et al. 1998, 2001, 2002) to judge what learning rules best describe people’s adjustments with or without a pre-existing common language.

i speculate in this article about some of the behavioral economics involved. really curious to hear yours thoughts as well. what did i miss?
Stephanie Wang, a professor of economics at the University of Pittsburgh who researches behavioral economics, suggests there are also significant social dimensions at play.
“Some consumers' desire for a ticket may be greater when they know both that many other people also want the ticket and cannot have it,” Wang tells WIRED. She points to an experiment published in The Review of Economic Studies in 2023 which found that “when some people are randomly excluded from being able to participate in an auction, the bids of those who are allowed to remain in the auction substantially increase.” Moreover, she adds, someone’s commitment to participating in the ultimate movie event can “signal to others, and sometimes to themselves as well, that they are true fans,” since it may “require you to give up time or sleep or something else of value.”“Of course, the classical economic question is, why don't the theaters just increase prices until supply equals demand and the market clears?” says Wang, identifying one theoretical way to cut down the secondary resale market. But, she says, theaters have reasons not to pull an audience that paid top dollar across the board. “They might want the fans who will give a rave review afterwards and spread the positive word in their social networks,” Wang explains, and those who sacrificed more for a ticket are more disposed to “believe that it's one of the best movies they have ever seen to justify the effort cost, which far exceeds the monetary cost.”

🚨Elsevier forces out Games and Economic Behavior (GEB) Editor, entire editorial board has resigned, current board only handling new submissions until Nov. 14 #econsky
    Dear Advisory Editor of GEB
We are very sorry to be the bearers of bad news for GEB.
I learned from Elsevier on Wednesday July 28 that, contrary to my expressed willingness to continue, my 3-year contract will not be renewed.
"Moving towards a closer alignment with Elsevier strategic priorities and publishing policies" was offered as the motive for this decision. Requests for explanations, first by me, then in a collective letter by the other six Editors, were dismissed by Elsevier which simply reaffirmed its legal power to make such decisions.
Elsevier then started precipitously its own search for new Editors without input of the Editorial Board.
By Friday August 14 all seven Editors have sent their resignation, requiring a 3-month advance notice.
Therefore, we will continue to manage as before the papers currently under review and the new submissions until Saturday November 14. After this date we will only complete the evaluation of papers still waiting an editorial decision.
