The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

ISR researcher Carina Gronlund studies how extreme weather affects health, housing, and older adults. Her research, recently featured in an article on U-M climate solutions, explores how flooding, heat, weatherization, and cooling centers can shape community health and resilience.
Extreme weather research graphic featuring ISR researcher Carina Gronlund and the message that cataloging health effects is valuable, but action is needed to address them; headline reads Extreme Weather Hits Home; text identifies Carina Gronlund as ISR Researcher; flooding impacts listed are heat stress, isolation, dehydration, and worsened chronic conditions; heat impacts listed are mold, displacement, water damage, and respiratory illness; quote reads I think we all recognize that although there’s value in cataloging these health effects, Gronlund said, we also need to be working on what to do about it; graphic includes Carina Gronlund’s headshot, ISR logo, and images representing flooding, heat, and affected communities.

I love France. It is fun & adventurous. But France penalizes families in subtle ways: special immigration line for families in AeroportsCDG served by 2 agents making the line the longest and unmoving. Why would women want to have kids?

Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself.
In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior.
On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people - and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.

April Rain Song. Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.

Finally, Rome!! I have come to understand the meaning of the proverbs “All roads lead to Rome.” It is a beautiful and ancient city. More importantly it is a city which has been built over by multiple civilizations multiple time throughout its long history. It’s like an artichoke!
