Should more oil and gas licences be granted for the North Sea? Can the transition be just? Should Scottish/UK energy be in public hands? This is well worth a read.

Wrote a letter to my MP, it’s probably not the most coherent thing in the world but I couldn’t not say anything.
Dear
For the five years I have lived in
, I've been proud to have you as my representative. Your
intervention when my gender identity clinic did not send my surgery referral for over a year was crucial in getting them to acknowledge and, vitally, rectify their error. I will remain forever grateful to you for this.
But I'm afraid will not vote for you again, not whilst the red rosette you proudly wear remains a symbol of my exclusion.
Your government's proposed guidance is innately dehumanising. It prioritises the comfort of others over my ability to use the toilet, to access services, and to play the sport love with my friends. Ultimately, it seeks to confine me to my home - away from those who view me with disgust. A dangerous precedent has been set that it is more important for others to be protected from acknowledging the existence of those they deem unworthy than for marginalised people to exist publicly at all.
No matter how hard your party tries to spin this, there can be no dignity and respect for trans people with this guidance in place. As a trans man, I am told am not permitted to change with my football team who have called family for the last five seasons - that I must use separate female facilities alone. But if a woman walked through the door whilst I was lacing up my boots, I could be removed from these facilities too if she objected to my presence. Where is the dignity and respect in changing in a corridor? I suppose the preference is that don't play at all and stay at home so others do not have to perceive me.
I expect this behaviour from the Conservatives and Reform. Had this guidance been proposed by the previous Minister for Women and Equalities, I would have been devastated but not batted an eye. To watch a party I campaigned for, a party I was proud to represent for several years as a candidate, the self-identified "party of equality" usher in the biggest rollback of LGBTQ+ rights since Thatcher's Section 28 is shameful. I will not choose betwe…

This is a good question to address, actually. There's often an intuitive assumption that when a country runs out of money, its war effort will grind to a halt. That's how households and (sometimes) companies work. But those assumptions are really frequently frustrated - countries can push on.

There’s lots of criticism of this, but to a large extent this should be understood as electoral positioning on the left. A key left criticism of the Greens is that they aren’t sufficiently anti-NATO - this pushes back on that even if it erodes some of the soft left votes that the Greens also want.
