5 months into 2026, the US has racked up 1,983 confirmed measles cases. That's nearly 87% as many cases as were recorded in all of 2025. Most of those cases are locally acquired; only 9 are imported. Unless vaccination patterns improve, endemic measles is here to stay. www.cdc.gov/measles/data...

Why the scare quotes? Huge numbers of people in this country are struggling with their mental health, esp since the pandemic. Most politicians diminish this harm and gaslight people suffering for somehow not being robust enough. I celebrate @carladenyer.bsky.social being brave and honest.

DHSC published its impact statement for the 10 Year Health Plan this week (yes, that is 6 months after it published the plan) It's more measured and clear-eyed than the original document and quite a contrast to some of the effusive optimism in the plan Some of the things that caught my eye 👇

I really do enjoy No Meetings Fridays. We adopted this a couple of years ago and only allow external meetings where they can't/won't shift. Some weeks I get more done on a Friday than I do in the other four days in the week.

Q5: I have gained a renewed sense of connection with the QI tribe which I missed from the other place. I think I will do more exploring of the values of the project team in the early stages of a project and note them so we can refer to them.

Fourthly, short stay elective and day case ward areas present particular challenges. If specialties sometimes use these areas for ‘boarding out’ inpatients, then we need to tease those patients out so that they can be ‘re-patriated’ to the main specialty count. 8/14

We have this tendency in the NHS of reporting hospital inpatient activity using ward-based numbers, as if in denial of how much bed borrowing and lending goes on. 5/14
