This makes me mad. I met him when he was appointed as Perm Sec at DHSC and was profoundly underwhelmed. Eveything he subsequently did suggested that I had hugely overestimated him.

Important editorial piece by @nigel-edwards.bsky.social and @drlkvaughan.bsky.social Amos & Ockenden have not revealed a new phenomenon in maternity care. Rather reignited focus on a chronic culture crisis. Importantly it recognises that such issues are endemic across modern healthcare.

Repeated reviews in maternity (and other areas) have not really go to the bottom of the issues - often because they are genuinely hard to understand. And so the pattern repeats. bmj.com/cgi/content/...

Greg has been making this pointfor some time. I am slightly surprised that people are just waking up to this. Often the major driver of projected future deficits is a large % term for non-demographic growth. It's often huge, and in the 100s of slides that often follow it is never mentioned again
