Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Skydivers alert emergency crews, assist after plane crashes near East Troy airport
Four people were aboard the single-engine plane when it went down in a cornfield near Carvers School Road in East Troy at about 1:30 p.m.

What's happening is that Republicans are priming Democrats and Democratic voters for more violent forms of transphobia. They're manipulating people into caring about something that is most likely never going to affect them.

In practice, AI literacy doesn’t start with building the tool for your personal use. It starts with understanding yourself as a collection of tasks who should subcontract those out to a machine. Almost no regular person’s life currently exists as such.

It seems so implausible to me that the balaclava, the balalaika, and baklava all come from distinct cultures and none of them were invented by Bob Balaban.

The best art I ever made started in a DM with Sam where I said "I have this weird idea and I think it's probably impossible." And she said "That sounds amazing, but yes probably impossible." This video started the same way, with the roles reversed. It's probably the best art she's ever made. Watch.

karl marx with a speech bubble pointed towards the quote post which is a screenshot of a facebook post that reads

What sucks is that life could be "so" easy, so fucking easy. There is so much stuff rotting in storage units, in garages, nearly half of all food goes to waste, there's enough clothing for the next *6* generations! We don't even need to be working really at all, our ancestors broke down their bodies to build all this shit, the least we could do is slow down to actually utilize and fairly distribute it all. Instead, we all suffer endlessly while 8 men control half the world's wealth. Fuck

Does my Speak-n-Spell feel pain when I type O-U-C-H? The jury is out. Philosophers and neuroscientists say that's fucking stupid, but I called a guy from the Center for Pretending that Household Electronics Are Sentient and he said there's no way to know for sure.

So, question for the bsky team, is it the position of this website that bugs actually owns a piranha pool? Or is it that their audience of piranha pool owners might take this as a serious suggestion. Like for this to be a legitimate rules violation *there must be a piranha pool in play* #freethebugs

A thought exercise for transphobic Democrats: replace the "transgender" with "Jewish" in the ads and notice how uncomfortable you suddenly get. There is slightly more trans people in the U.S. (0.95%) than German Jews (0.75%) before the Holocaust. Can't you see how dangerous your slippery slope is?

The Dean of Harvard College has been on a PR tour defending the institution's approach to AI and writing, but student testimony from inside the institution suggests that the school is retreating from human exchange as central to the learning experience. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

I’m a Writing Tutor at Harvard. The College is Failing Us. | The Harvard Crimson
The Writing Center’s dismantling evokes a broader pattern of institutions treating human learning and connection as costs to cut, not values to protect.

A lot of Americans (including me!) *did* experience 9/11 as a unifying event in the aftermath. But what we were united in was abject racism, and *many* Americans were excluded from and victimized by that “unity.” Those who still laud that unity either haven’t realized that or still endorse it.

The data from this OECD PISA report is damning. "students who do not use AI outperform those who do, ... equivalent to being around one year of schooling ahead of their peers." www.oecd.org/en/publicati...
Graph showing students who never use AI scoring 505 on a "draft texts for writing assignments" task. As students use AI more, the score goes down, until students who use it daily score 480.

One of those passages that has lived in my head for decades now. “It’s expensive to be poor” feels unintuitive if you’ve always been comfortable, but Pratchett explains it in two short paragraphs.

Medusa with a single anaconda for hair. She wears a grey chiton and stubbornly strides to the left, dragging the heavy snake, which trails sullenly along behindMedusa with a single anaconda for hair. It is completely coiled around her, leaving only her angry yellow eyes visible, and a single hand lifted to flip off the worldMedusa with a single anaconda for hair. She wears a grey towel and is scrubbing the snake. A bar of soap sits in a small puddle off to the leftMedusa with a single anaconda for hair.
