Every now and then I see myself referred to as an "AI Denier" and I want to be clear I acknowledge "AI" exists, it's just I think it's a massive energy drain, created from theft, implemented poorly for inappropriate tasks by loathsome tech executives who get hard at the idea of the rest of us dying

"AI" - chatbots that wake up, "set their own goals," and "spontaneously" start hacking servers - is fake. It doesn't have "a 10% chance of ending the human race." The Hugging Face hack isn't a mysterious, supernatural occurrence.

Any "compromise" on trans rights is both deeply wrong in itself and lays groundwork for worse. Sports bans? Segregate us from part of public life, establish legal grounds for further discrimination. Healthcare bans for trans kids? More trans kids die and trans healthcare as a whole is endangered.

The New School's announcement of its termination of tenured faculty is a tragic echo of 1979. Facing demands from accreditors to increase graduate faculty in certain areas, its administration advocated the closure of departments, described as long running “deficit operation[s]”

I mean, it's Aaron Sorkin Odyssey. The real problem is that we didn't uphold the norms of polite decorum (Law of Zeus!) and that's why they're seeing society collapse instead of having brunch (in an Ithaca that has slaves and beggars and conscripts children for war)

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

digital illustration based on the rider-waite tarot deck showing a tarot card called “the ivory tower.” it depicts a white tower with windows gushing fire spiraling up to a crenelated top. the tower is surrounded by dark clouds and drops of fire. books and a mortarboard hat are falling away from the tower and lightning is striking its top. it sounds more dramatic than it is!

Academic work can be bad or misconceived or subject to partisan capture, of course, but a field’s misalignment with the political spectrum outside the field isn’t reliable evidence of that.

Millions of American voters wanted to be villains. They came to believe it’s the key to success, while goodness is weak, woke, loser stuff, done only to signal. Offered the option of unvarnished villainy, they enthusiastically took it. Seeing others suffer more made them feel big. And here we are.

I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. They see it as a boring arduous chore to be avoided, while real writers actually enjoy writing and actually care about the quality of it.
