For all soldiers preparing to defend #democracy against barbarian warriors, this piece about the role of #artillery in #drone -heavy battlefields of #Ukraine is very much worth the read. TL;DR: no longer the king of the battlefield, but artillery remains necessary. www.twz.com/news-feature...

Artillery, once the 'king of battle' along the front lines has been dethroned by drones, but it still has a critical job to do.

Really good article from Ben Evans www.ben-evans.com/benedictevan...
I think you can see all of this in the experience of enterprise AI deployment in the last three years. Every big company gave everyone Copilot (or maybe ChatGPT or Claude) and a small number of people are using this a lot (some of whom actually increased their productivity), while a larger set of people are using it a couple of times a week and a lot of the rest of your company isn't really using it at all. This is partly a change management and a training problem, but it's mostly the same problem that you would have had if you'd given everyone in the company a PC and Lotus 123 in 1983, or an internet connection and a web browser in 1997. How exactly does this map to everybody's tasks and the problems they actually have this week? Yes, you did give everybody a PC and Lotus, but that wasn’t how you transformed the efficiency of your invoice processing. Yes, you gave everybody a web browser, but that wasn't how you rebuilt your supply chain management around the internet, and it certainly wasn't how a retailer managed e-commerce.

Surprised Eel Historian, PhD @greenleejw.bsky.social · 28/03/2026
Several years ago, on a whim, I started drawing a map of an eel's life travels as seen by the eel. I figured an eel thinks about its life as a linear journey, rather than a there-and-back again adventure. So I wanted to do a map to reflect this. This morning, on another whim, I finished the map!
A long, skinny map titled: "Life and Travels of the European Eel" with a subtitle reading: "From the Eel's Perspective." A label at the bottom of the map reads: "Begin Here." The map top half of the map is an mirror copy of the bottom half.

I will put the full text of the column in the alt text in an image in the next post in the thread.

The map goes from the bottom of the page up, starting in the Sargasso Sea. An set of arrows show the eels paths to shore, then up a river and into a marshland. The arrows continue up the page to show the eel leaving the marshland and heading back downstream, and out to sea. The land is green and verdant at the bottom of the map, because the eels migrate upstream in the spring. The land is brown and dry at the top of the map, because eels migrate downstream in the autumn.

A column of text on the side tells about the eels' journeys and changes. It is more text than I can relate in the space allowed here. Each paragraph has an arrow pointing up to the next one, and they are designed to be read from the bottom of the page going upwards.

Out of the 2159 Jews who lived in my Zayde's village before the war, 20 survived. The Germans, with assistance from Lithuanian police, shot 2000 people in two days. The rest were sent to ghettos, or hid in the forest. My Zayde hid, and I get to be here today. I can't forget, I hope you won't either.

They really have no idea. The External Active Thermal Control System (EATCS) on the ISS has huge radiators but can only remove a maximum of about 240,000 BTU (about 70KW) worth of heat from the complex per hour. Data centers generate waste heat in the megawatt-hour range (tens to hundreds).
The International Space Station above Earth. The solar panels are the large fin-like structures on the outboard of the wings, while the radiators for the heat removal system are the large white rectangular objects inboard.
