When I started indexing language and civic integration requirements for my PhD, Ireland and Sweden were real outliers to Western Europe‘s policy adoption craze and remained so for almost two decades. Outliers no more—the last domino has fallen

My favorite song that Dolly Parton wrote was "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind." Originally recorded as a duet with Chet Atkins. But treat yourself to this performance on Jonny Carson and watch her play that guitar with those long nails. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJEp...

As @mcopelov.bsky.social reminds me, I'm going to have to update my voting rights timeline...
A timeline of voting rights in the US from the ratification of the Constitution in 1789 until around 2018, highlighting the restrictions of those rights on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, and age over time. The figure highlights the period between 1965 (Voting Rights Act) and 2013 (Shelby v Holder) as the high point of democratic elections in the US.

After you post about the NSF here, email to your member of Congress, professional association, and university. SBE program officers are not being fired but moved to other directorates where “SBE” proposals will compete in broad RFPs, but there is still a window to prevent this catastrophic change.

Synagogues pay for their own security. Building bollards and gates, installing cameras, etc., require capital campaigns or added membership dues. A police presence is not free. Plus synagogues train their members to volunteer as security guards. We do this because safety is not a choice.

Out of the 2159 Jews who lived in my Zayde's village before the war, 20 survived. The Germans, with assistance from Lithuanian police, shot 2000 people in two days. The rest were sent to ghettos, or hid in the forest. My Zayde hid, and I get to be here today. I can't forget, I hope you won't either.

Democrats need to understand that they can just say “It’s insane to threaten Greenland” and “I don’t think ICE should murder Americans in the street” and you don’t need to pretend to link it to the affordability crisis. Say bad things are bad.

Antisemitism was always there, we just had guardrails in place that made it impolite to be publicly antisemitic. See: David Duke. But when the president declares “good people on both sides,” people feel emboldened and unashamed

Lit reviews convince the reader that your work matters by showing what it does and where it fits. An engaged, earnest reader will approach your paper with “there are 8 million papers on X, what’s new here?” Your lit review better answer that question.
