Energy suppliers urge UK govt to help households struggling with energy bills. Silence on cutting profit margins, windfall taxes on excessive profits. Household energy debt heading to £7bn. 120,000 a year die in fuel poverty. We can't afford privatisation and resulting profiteering.

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

This country has heard enough from Tony Blair.
This country has heard quite enough from Blair, says Polanski
Zack Polanski has hit out at Sir Tony Blair's criticisms of the current Labour Party, saying his intervention is "pretty grotesque" - and too long.

This morning, the former prime minister issued a stinging rebuke of Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party, warning that it has "no coherent plan" and is in the "wrong position" to win a second term in government.

Asked for his reaction by our political correspondent Rob Powell, the Green Party leader told Sky News: "I think it was 5,600 words too many. Tony Blair is a former prime minister who dragged this country into an illegal war in Iraq.

"I think it's pretty grotesque to see him selling the future of our children and grandchildren down the river through the kind of climate delay tactics, talking down clean energy and the security that we need.

"I just don't think this is a sensible intervention in a day where we're speaking in these extreme temperatures, to have someone who should hold a position of responsibility or a former position of responsibility to be speaking like this."
