Energy suppliers urge UK govt to help households struggling with energy bills. Silence on cutting profit margins, windfall taxes on excessive profits. Household energy debt heading to £7bn. 120,000 a year die in fuel poverty. We can't afford privatisation and resulting profiteering.

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

Not heard anything before today on this, and it's very welcome news. Hopefully, this grows to its logical conclusion as bus drivers deserve the same work conditions as the underground drivers.

Pay rent, eat or keep warm? Growing numbers face hard choices as housing benefit gap grows. No curbs on rents. Shortage of social housing. 2.8m council homes sold since the 1980s, not replaced. Low wages, 37.8% of Universal Credit claimants are in work. Poverty is a political choice.

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough. First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation; Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers; Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

BBC coverage of Thetford case-study in impact of language. "Disorder"? Crowds attempted to break into housing for asylum seekers. That would be violent intimidation. "Anti-immigration"? Are protesters "anti-immigration," or just anti certain immigrants? If so, stop whitewashing their position.

Yep, a ploy obviously, but hard to see how they get many subscriptions from CG. Makes the lack of terrestrial coverage even worse, as the sporting calendar is (literally) empty this week, so would have been a chance for some to get profile.

59% turnout is high for a by-election, but it still means that, in one of the most high-profile & consequential by-elections ever, more than 4 in 10 voters couldn't be bothered to do their democratic duty. Chartists, reformers and suffragists would be giving us some pretty hard looks right now.

Let's hope so, I don't believe in saviours, as I believed in Blair once. All we need is a PM who actually WANTS to govern and do so with a progressive slant. If Labour can do that we have half a chance of stemming the shift to the right.

I stick with the bookmakers on this, Labour are 1/8 and Reform between 4/1 to 6/1 on Oddschecker, and drifting. That's some divergence in a two-horse race. A win for Andy in the current environment for Labour would be impressive.

I agree, and find the framing more troubling than Farage. It seems our national broadcasters and mainstream are putting business and clicks before any semblance of civil responsibility. Worse, are the many highly paid broadcasters, on R4 etc, who are happy to promote this 'debate' than take a stand.
