UK AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT
12 - 16 June 2025
Free
The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt is one chapter of the largest community art project in the world, representing approximately 384 people affected by HIV and AIDS in the UK.
At the height of the AIDS pandemic in the late 1980s and early 1990s, U.S. activists encouraged people to create textile panels to commemorate loved ones who had died. These individual panels were then sewn together into larger quilts. The quilts were displayed publicly to protest and raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. Readings of the names on the quilts often accompanied the displays. Activist groups across the world organised their own local quilts. Each chapter of the project continues to highlight the global impact of HIV and AIDS on individuals and communities today.
