university rankings are meaningless. they are austerity (as @ncecire.bsky.social reminds us). even though my literature course has 100% (!) teaching satisfaction in the guardian guide and we are higher than famous competitors (29th!), we are being cut. no more literature at my uni (or other hums).

Notable how a not-insignificant number of the signatories on the letters supporting a racist signed on to letters supporting anti-trans extremists in 2018 or are high-profile anti-trans extremists themselves, almost as if there’s a connection between ‘everything is gender’ and ‘everything is race’

Here’s the new letter defending Cofnas against “punishment for whistleblowing” (which is not why Ghent suspended him). This time around signatures from a disappointing number of academics from my old institution, London School of Economics johnarmstrongmaths.com/openletters/...

As academics, we are concerned that Ghent University's disciplinary proceedings against Dr Cofnas appear to constitute retaliation, at least in part, for publicizing academic misconduct that occurred in British universities.

From Will Self of all people, an absolutely clinical deconstruction of Kathleen Stock. Nice to know that some writers can see through some of the GC crowd.
J'accuse Kathleen Stock of helping convert an allegation of academic misconduct into the story of 'Cambridge's DEI darling', thereby making Arday's institutional and racial symbolism integral to the accusation. There's no need to label Stock transphobic: she's done it herself, whatever the nonsense she spouts about 'gender criticality'; just as there's no need to demonstrate that her personal agon is that she hasn't been allowed to peddle her own prejudices in return for status and prestige: that, too, she has amply confirmed through her writings and public statements. She, and her supporters clearly feel they are winning: I wonder if they know what that will look like, or how high the body-count will have to go before they're satisfied.

Missed Stock saying autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia are ‘intellectual disabilities’ (???) making people ‘unsuited’ for academia. Okay, what. But did she ever talk to any of her colleagues, or did she sprint to her car after her lectures on how we know what a text means by asking the author?

This results day I'm thinking about how much of the university sector is on its knees, and how this situation was engineered by an obsessive need to turn HE into a market-based race to the bottom. Fees are one thing, but little discussed is the impact of eliminating the student caps in 2014.

Dear cis people, Please, for the love of G-d, stop using the terms "biological male" and "biological female." They're scientifically meaningless. Sex is a bimodal cluster categorization. The brain is biological, no? There is no one factor that's universally determinative of sex and gender.
