A basic fact about how the right operates is that they take attacks on women's rights, trans people, immigrants and racialized people etc. deathly seriously, while many liberals and even many leftists dismiss them as 'distractions' or 'culture issues'. Often due to tacit agreement.

How does the left wing party come to power on a programme of pure bullshit, then instantly launch into brutal spending cuts and National Front-level racist crackdowns and rhetoric? If does it by fraud. How could that possibly happen? Because all the refs are bent and they make damn sure it does.

We’ve been saying for years that transphobia is the gateway drug, for some reason. It’s the one that opens these people to every other piece of reactionary drivel floating around out there. And reactionary politics based on your superiority makes you acutely vulnerable to frauds and shitehawks.

From Wikipedia:

The purpose of a system is what it does (POSIWID) is a heuristic in systems thinking coined by the British management consultant Stafford Beer,[1] who stated that there is "no point in claiming that the purpose of a system is to do what it constantly fails to do".[2] It is used in systems theory, and is generally invoked to counter the notion that the purpose of a system can or should be read from the intentions of those who design, operate, or promote it. When a system's side effects or unintended consequences reveal that its behaviour is poorly understood, then the POSIWID perspective can balance political understandings of system behaviour with a more straightforwardly descriptive view.

@transgenderhistory.bsky.social Went down a bit of a rabbit hole learning about Kutkh the Kamchatkan Raven god and came across this
Wood carving of Kutkh, northeast Asian raven god, made by Koryak artisans of Kamchatka. He is a chubby guy with a big beak and slightly grumpy expression. He is wearing what looks to be a representation of a traditional embroidered Kamchatkan parka-dress. He has little beads on his head. Text reads:
Religion

In Chukchi religion, every object, whether
animate or inanimate, is assigned a spirit.
This spirit can be either harmful or
benevolent. Some of Chukchi myths reveal a
dualistic cosmology.[12][13] A Chukchi shaman
once explained to the ethnographer Vladimir
Bogoraz that "The lamp walks around. The
walls of the house have voices of their own. ...
Even the shadows on the wall constitute
definite tribes and have their own country
where they live in huts and subsist by
hunting."[11] During Chukchi rituals, shamans
fall into trances (sometimes with the aid of
hallucinogenic mushrooms), communicate
with spirits, allow the spirits to speak through
them, predict the future and cast spells.9

Early Russian ethnographers observed that
Chukchi shamans were said to be called by
spirits, dreams, or omens, and were believed
to be capable of flight, exorcism, and healing,
Some shamans were called by mystical
forces to engage in a form of ritualized
homosexual relations with other men. This
ritual typically involved a gender change
through a religious ceremony that, it was
believed, transformed his genitalia into that of
a female. After the change, he might dress in
women's clothing and behave in feminine
ways. He was then believed to "lose'
masculine traits like hunting skill, and instead
take on "feminine" traits, like healing and
nurturina. Some of these shamans would take
male lovers, and could even marry other men,
and the shaman would take on a "wifely'
role.[14][15]

Do try to remember that the EHRC guidance only affects service providers and not employment, so if you work somewhere where there are toilets or changing rooms for employees that aren’t open to the public then your employers are wrong if they try to stop you from using facilities for your gender
