Birds, interestingly, have four types of cone cells with the extra seeing well into the ultraviolet. So the crow couple sitting preening each other on the tree opposite your house are complimenting each other's colourful iridescent feathers under a violet sky.

In Russian for instance this colour is called головой (goluboi) and is considered a distinct colour from spectral blue - синий (siniy) There are languages that dont have separate words for spectral blue and green but do have a separate word for sky blue (I *think* classical Chinese is like this?)

The scattering effect of the earth's atmosphere produces a range of short wavelength visible light that leads to intense activation of the green- blue and blue plus cones simultaneously. Your brain labels this with a non spectral colour that in English we call Sky-blue But other languages don't!

I keep going back to look at it. It makes me think about my time in Brighton prior to my surgery, staying at an air BnB to quarantine prior, as it was covid time. There's something about it that made me think of that time and speaks to me, even before I saw the title.
