I was too vulnerable to reply at the time—but thank you for thinking of me everyone. It really does help when I am feeling so isolated. Between doctors, writing and feeling HRT kick in and do its thing, it's been a big week. I'm tired! The hugs are so appreciated! I feel loved.

Good morning, #WIPSnips! Good news—THE CLOCKMASTER is saved 🙌 And look: lil walkin' talkin' candles! How cute... ...AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️ [Content warning: beheading] #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #AmWriting #Frogbo #QueerWriters
~An excerpt from the WIP Frogbo written by Jace—that's me :) (word of the day "root” -> “[plant]” (originally did use root; changed to a faceplant because I will NEVER pass up on a chance to alliterate all and anything)~

A hazy wave of wax rushes out the woodwork, each-every stick tipped with flamelit wicks. Could thee be… Candles? Have not we heard tell of Candles tending to bear arms or legs or faces or thoughts or any such of sort. We're not sure *why*fore these candles happened on all the extra features, though nay may be we picky; so-spent us from a nine-hundred and ninety-nine-stepped ascending re-descencion. Plus the dais.

THE CLOCKMASTER is kicking their little feets away—their first sign of life since landing face-[plant]ed and prostrate gainst marblemake tiles. Ten belly-tall Candles position themselves in tandem pon the CLOCKMASTER's dial.

As flame-tipped heads melt and wane and flicker and waft, the Candles grab THE CLOCKMASTER—

and *rip their head off*.

So THAT'S what the arms are for! Noted.

#WIPSnips #WritingCommunity A very easy snippet for me, when most of my characters are named after root or bulb vegetables 😆 Here, Grilled (one of the few NOT named after such a veggie) gives dinner to a customer who mentions the Good Thyme Inn's signature meal.
Welcome to the Good Thyme Inn

“Don’t change your plans just for my sake. Tomorrow, give me your signature stew—Good Thyme Inn Stew. Wait, no, first tell me what meat you’re using this week.”
Grilled puffed up his chest with pride, as he’d been the one to cut up pieces of the meat to put in the stew earlier that morning. “It’s lamb!”
“I suppose it’s too early to be slaughtering cotzas or aurochsen. Lamb is good eating, though. Very well, lad. Tomorrow, bring me some Good Thyme Inn Stew instead.”
Everyone outside the inn called it by the name of the inn. Grilled had heard Parsnips and Shallot call it ‘Family Stew’ since the ingredients were primarily the root and bulb vegetable namesakes of the family members, including garlic which they’d used long before Garlic had arrived and claimed that name. Grilled wondered if it would be weird to add zucchinis to it…

#WIPSnips Blake is rather stunned by Mammon's generosity. He has expected less of the demon Lord of Greed. But the Wolf of Wealth is actually a pretty chill guy. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity
“Medical debt.” He sneered. He tapped the concept hard, like swatting a mosquito.
“Blake, I didn’t know you had hospital bills.” Sergei said, helping him to his feet.
“Not me. My mom’s.”
“I cannot expunge this vile debt, but I can lessen the burden.” Mammon explained. “Several collection agencies have just lost your files. I’m sorry I cannot do more.”
Blake rubbed his wrists, relieved of the icy clasp of debt.
“I must admit, I’m surprised at your kindness, sir.” Blake said. “Thank you.”
“Blake, you humans say money is not the root of evil. It is not.” The Wolf sat back at his desk. “The root of evil is treating people as things. We didn’t come up with that.”

#WIPSnips #WriteSky #writingprompt Dance of Demons (throwback to one of Daisuke’s first poisonmaking lessons 🤭)
The tray held an odd, inky flower, prompting an inquisitive gaze at Master Yujin. Daisuke asked quietly, “What’s wrong with it?”

“This is a black lotus flower,” Master Yujin explained. “They grow along the eastern seaboard and create an incredibly toxic poison. No known antidote exists. Pink lotuses, on the other hand, have several health benefits—their roots and hearts are used in foods and medicines, and you can eat the seeds right from the pod. I don’t recommend confusing the two.”

Daisuke wrinkled his nose at the tiers of greasy-looking petals. “You mean this one’s meant to look that way?”

No root. Using source instead.
“First, put out the word to our sources. Is anyone searching for our little hunter? Second, send spies to the nearby villages. Somebody must have said something that sent her our way. Somebody must know something.”

Tristan nodded.

“I’ve never fought the great Lady Battle Ax. If I had, one of us would be dead. And she has killed immortals older than myself. I wonder at the skill of her granddaughter. A hungry part of me wants to see how dangerous this little hunter might be. But I do not wish to risk an immortal life on such frivolities. I need more information. Still, the little hunter seemed caught off guard when I left her last. Perhaps she is not as skilled as I am fearing.”

Tristan nodded again. He shivered and looked at the open window.

A werewolf lad learns about soap. (yucca and some other kinds of plants can be used 🙂) #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity
Image with writing:

“Do you have soap?”

“Soap? What’s that?”

Oh dear. Stealing more things from Home seemed like it would make a bad idea even worse. Leaving him to fend for himself was no better.

She scratched her chin and muttered, “I read that if you break certain plant roots and mix them with water, you can make soap. It helps with cleaning. If only I had a picture of one…”

Wesley’s mouth fell open. The gloom vanished from his voice. “Is that magic?”

#WIPSnips #amwriting #writingcommunity #writers #writesky Ooh I actually have one! Kena is talking with the archives priest, who plants (heh) an interesting idea in his head unintentionally. From #GodsOfAtalantis Book 2
“That’s true,” Ba’oti agreed, impressed by the boy’s insight—though he supposed he shouldn’t have been. Seeing the world with clear eyes, bringing to light that which for others was shrouded in darkness: these had always been gifts of the Sun Father. “It almost seems you’d have to dig up the whole tree by the roots, ona? Go back to the foundation of things, if you wanted to see real change.”
“Hm—the foundation of things,” Kena murmured. His honey-colored eyes suddenly sparked with an idea. He frowned, gazing inward, and began debating with himself under his breath. “Could we—? No, that would be ... ! But would it?”
“Sun Father?”
“Ba’oti.” Kena sat up a little straighter, more animated than he’d been before. “When was the last time someone added a new law to the Pillar of Na’aqa?”
“The Pillar of Na’aqa?” Ba’oti’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Oh, young Raa, those are the deepest, most foundational laws of Atalantis! It’s been well over a thousand years since anything new was added to it.”
“Then maybe,” Kena said, beginning to smile, “it’s overdue for a change.”

#WIPSnips From Fairy Court in Exile. Obsidian is nonverbal but does communicate somewhat with telepathy. She wants to know the full story about how the Fairy soldier who rescued her died. Shatter is having none of it. Everybody is a child to Merry-Weather. 😁
Obsidian frowned. “I know it’s hard for you, too. But she was my Sister. And you didn’t know her as long I as I did. You must earn this.” Obsidian narrowed her eyes and frowned more deeply. “Then find another place,” Shatter said harshly. “Merry‑Weather can take you elsewhere. Forget about her. Do you think I walked into the garrison, and they handed me a Captain’s badge? You have potential, but you must earn your place. Especially now.” Shatter took another roll from Obsidian’s tray and walked off. Obsidian remained rooted to the spot, radiating frustration. Her hands clenched on the sides of the tray, denting the metal. “There you are, child,” Merry‑Weather said. “Where’s all your food?” She paused. “Well, you know soldiers. Go, get some more. Titania and Conwenne want to start soon. And they can’t do that if people are still hungry.” Obsidian didn’t move. “Go. Shatter is right: you need to earn your place.” Obsidian finally strode away. “Children,” Merry-Weather swore, taking in the whole of the room.

#WIPSnips 27. “Root” Not a WIP, but I had to share this snippet from the short story I wrote as a homage to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (eternal Shang Tsung) after his passing. #ChroniclesOfTheRealms #ShangTsung #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
The Day of Roots. A day when seedlings all over the kingdom honoured their parents with gifts, songs and, of course, flowers. A day when families gathered under the sun or the shade of an old tree to tell stories coursing through their lineages.

And then there was Shang Tsung, alone in his lab, trying and failing to formulate an antidote against this new virus brought from beyond the seas that caused blisters to bloom on the skin rather than flowers. Why could he not solve this equation?

Flashes of the gloomy looks he had attracted that day interrupted his train of thought. They pitied him, of course: for dĩn'huei, families meant everything. More branches to their trees, the extension of the cycle, and all that gibberish. What did Shang Tsung care that he had no parents, no siblings?

No children.

#fantasy #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #WIPSnips #root Well, he found her! One of my absolute favorite snips. Rushak and Lara. - Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power.
He wiped dripping water from his eyes and
perceived she sat comfortably, cradled by a twist of questing Silverbark ROOT, one leg tucked, the other with its boot, now sodden and black, perfectly posed to have kicked him in the head. A flicker of light
caught her eye like a ripple on the River's surface. The tip of her ear swept up in a gentle peak, and a wet, reddish tendril of her hair shifted like a vine with a bird in it.

#WipSnips | Root #👑🗡️ Artan is one of Seamus’ closest friends (and Seamus doesn’t realize that he’s also in love with them yet lol). Artan doesn’t like that he’s constantly risking his life at his mercenary job. And after making them cry, Seamus tries to make things right 🥺
Artan moved so that they could meet his eye. They glared at him, their face severe. “Your life has value, Seamus, whether you think it or not. And I can’t stand seeing you squander it.”

He sighed. “Look, if there was another way, I would’ve found it by now.”

Their anger faltered. Their brows creased, but they just shrugged. “Fine. Get yourself killed, for all I care. I won’t be here to patch up what remains of your corpse.”

Seamus looked away to let them work. But even with the medicine and the stitching at his side, they didn’t hurt nearly as much as hearing Artan’s soft sniffling did. Grigor offered to hold his hand, perhaps thinking that he was in that much pain, but he shrugged him off.

“…You really think I’m getting too old for this?” he asked, filling the silence.

“Oh, I *know* you are,” was the response. “Your roots are silver. You complain over aches in your legs. You never settled down. What are you waiting for? Hm?”

He shrugged. “I haven’t felt the need.”

“Do you need permission? Is that it?”

Seamus winced. “How about this. I’ll take on one more job.”

Artan paused. “Don’t placate me, Seamus. You should not say anything you don’t intend to follow through on.”

“No, I’m serious.” He shifted so that they could face each other. “One more job.”

They watched his face once more. “…You’re serious?”

“Talia’s more than ready to take my place. You’re right. I’ve been doing this for too long.” Seamus managed a smile. “Perhaps, then you won’t be spending all your share of the pool on dressing my wounds.”

Their shoulders relaxed, tears in their eyes.

G'morning #Wipsnips! Back to ATB for today again, and a small, tiny bit of body horror here. Not sure if a spoiler label is needed here, gonna chance it. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
The nails withdraw back into my hand, and I feel the heat inside raise up as a specific and unique biological process occurs. The pain lances up my arm as more carbon is extracted from the surrounding flesh and bone, just a tiny amount from every part and put through the torture that is needed here and now.
Minutes pass, and the torture ends. Now a new one begins as I extend my nails out once again. Instead of the shiny black obsidian, they now emerge as sparkly clear constructs of incredible hardness and unforgiving edges that cut my fingers apart from the inside as they emerge.
This is not the most pain I’ve felt, but it’s pretty up there.
Well I’ll be…
I look from the bloodstained diamond to the whirling display of bending physics, to back to the nails, and I make my final decision.
In one fluid movement I stab the nails right into the heart of the machine, then twist and break them off right at the roots before the machine can pull me in. Gears and energy grind against pure diamond, louder than any alarm. The noise puts my teeth on edge and nearly makes me gag. Somewhere behind the wall, a series of distressing glonks and snaps can be heard, ones that progress deeper into the structure of the Spire.

Okay, I have been informed that roots are nature's wires so it's WIRES from me! Ben and Elara in a deleted scene: #WIPSnips #sff #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts #StatuesErode
He crossed the bay as quietly as boots on metal would allow. He was halfway to the door when a bang cured him of caution.
A few lengthy strides and a “Who’s there?” later and he was ducking his head under the hatch door.
He blew out a breath as he saw the Captain emerge from the cockpit.
She looked startled, blue eyes wide open. “Oh, Ben! I didn’t hear you.”
Glancing past her, he saw a tangle of wires hanging loose under a console. “You okay Captain?”
She looked back, pointed to the mess: “Somewhere behind all that is the Black Box. I told Alex to keep his comm on before he left. If he did, maybe the box logged it. I’m going to get some cutters.”
He laughed out loud. She looked serious, maybe offended. “You’re not actually going to cut through the wires?”
She placed her hands on her hips. “Got a better idea?”
He rubbed his chin, only catching the action as a slight stubble scratched his finger. He smiled as he asked, “Maybe I can help? Save you scuttling the shuttle?”
The Captain’s stern look faded, she smiled back at him, arms relaxing. “You’ve been spending too much time with Toren, Mr George. Come on then, I’ll let you save me from myself.”
“Happy to, Captain.”

Undead doesn't mean Unperson. We all have hearts, even if not all of them still beat. 🧟👻🧛🧑‍🎤 From a novel about the adventures of a girl, a robot, and the heist crew they call family. 🫜🫜 #WIPSnips #AmWriting #WritingCommunity #WriteSky
Sister Elbo-Rüme had always said that blood carried with it a memory of the past. It was history’s ink, she’d explained one day as they walked the grounds of the orphanage. Seldom used with mercy.

Sophie wasn’t sure how she felt about it all. She had no deep-rooted hatred or generational grudges. No relatives in dark rooms, whispering stories of great-great-granduncles being carried off by vampires in the night. It could have happened. She’d never know.

What she did know was this: trying to make a life for yourself didn’t seem unreasonable. And in the case of the Undead, neither did trying to make an afterlife.

It was no coincidence that most of the labs were found here, in Siberia. This was Sergej Galkin's homeland, and it was that insufferably curious bastard who had started it all, who continued to slip their grasp whenever they got close enough to kill him. These days, most of the labs were hidden beneath layers of snow and permafrost, buried deep in the icy terrain.

Vela and Nori go shopping on the Consortium homeworld Euphonia. In 'Cloudgazer' #WIPSnips #WriteSky
They took a long elevator ride to the buildings' base layer, where streets and walkways connected to the other buildings like a wild maze of cobwebs and roots. Some actually reaching into depths unknown for water and nutrients to supply the buildings bio-components. Lower levels were filled with street stalls, shops and food places as Nori had eluded. It was a colorful jumble and pretty lively after the last few days. Vela kind of stuck to the path's side whenever she could. Avoiding the open busy plaza. Her initial enthusiasm had melted quickly in the crowd.

Cailo tries to be dignified after rescuing Alitzah. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“I’ve got your clothes here. If you want them.”

Cailo tipped his head and looked up at I’anthal. He managed a small smile. “Yes. It is rather nippy here.”

Standing up with dignity proved more difficult than Cailo had first expected. He had to reach out and hold a tree root to keep steady and then wobbled over so far he almost fell headfirst down the hill. When he was finally standing, he saw that Alitzah’s face held a tight smile and that was a relief to see she wasn’t angry or upset. A smile meant she had no intention of hurting him. “You look ridiculous,” she finally said. “Like some poor, wading bird that’s been rolled over by a cart.”

Cailo kept his arms tight underneath the cloak, to raise them would likely cause even more disgust at his appearance, but he could agree with Alitzah’s opinion. His spindly legs were overshadowed by the bulky mass of the cloak. What was it his brother had once said? ‘If I looked like you then I’d never leave the house’ and Cailo, for once, had to agree.

"My clothes?” He asked I’anthal and grabbed the rags that were pulled out of the bag. Like when he changed form, Cailo wanted privacy and moved to the denser area of trees to get changed. The first thing he put on, after pulling out a pesky twig that was fixed in the sole of his foot, were his socks. After that, it was simply a case of trousers and shirt. They smelt nicer, of lemon. I’anthal likely had a stash of scented oil in his bag. How long they’d smell that nice was a mystery.

#WIPSnips - Demon King Daughter - Had to be careful with this one. This is from book 3, and it's part of one of my favorite sequences in the entire series. One I'm particular averse to spoiling. This is out of context enough, I think. Book 2 releasing July 14th! Buy Book 1: pjccahill.carrd.co
One of the elements that limited human spell users of any kind was this step.
The mind fought it.
Stillness, silence, darkness were alien to a conscious mind. It would create things, remember stimuli, scramble and writhe for anything to distract from the terrifying absence of sense.
Thousands of years of practice and training at this very thing had been the source of Kyoka's mind being so fully aware from the start. She was gifted that from the Demon King, and it was the root of all her other strengths.
There was something the Demon King never had to master, however.
Kyoka's mind had new weapons now, new methods of fighting the darkness.

But when the barmaid brings it over to their table and Trig sees it on the plate with the red juice around the potatoes he shudders.
"I've changed my mind." He says publishing the plate away. "I can't eat that." "Why not?" Asks Raven. "Doesn't it remind you too much of what we've seen?" "But you have been catching rabbits and eating chicken. What's the difference?" "They don't look like people meat." Says Trig. "Really?" "I think it's the blood on the plate, and the smell. #WIPSnips - root cw: death Cassie experiences her first death-surge as she watches a vampire die.
I watched the light die in those eyes, and the sight of it stole the breath from my lungs. The swirling silver expanded and dulled, taking with it the bright blue to leave only a dull, lifeless grey. My soul screamed in horror, but my body stayed rooted and silent as thick, dark blood ran down to puddle on the floor. Then his face began to crumple like damp paper in front of my eyes, and a blue plume of energy pulsed around him. As his body collapsed to the floor in a pile of bones and decaying flesh, the blue glow burst outwards and dissipated. Deep in my core, I felt the rush of power as my magics all grew a little stronger. A wave of shivers passed through my physical body.
A sigh breathed from Ben’s lips.
“What was that?” I whispered.
“The death-surge. The fae magic that kept him alive all these years, dissipating out to the rest of the supernatural world. The whole world will know that a vampire died today.”

#WIPSnips It looks like everyone knows more about Khamsin than even she does.
"They say she commanded her own blood to strike at her enemies, and decimated their forces before losing consciousness, which allowed for her capture." She pours out the ash from her pipe, then begins refilling it. "What was your first meal when you woke up in the dungeons?"

Though her mind struggles to find a concrete memory to cling to in the haze of half-emotions and vague images that are the days after her imprisonment, the answer comes quickly, spurred by the smell of fresh blood and heavy spices.

"A battle-feast in my homeland's tradition," Khamsin says. "The flesh and blood of a felled foe."

"How unlike Larizian captors to provide their trophy with their hated enemy's victory feast, especially after such a costly battle."

"I thought they meant to make me feel at home." Having said this, she hesitates. "But they never made such concessions again."

"Remind this old woman, dearie: where does this tradition originate from?"

Khamsin's chest puffs with pride. "My clan's history dates back hundreds of years. The battle-feast is an ancient custom of the—"

Realization dawns. Her face goes pale.

"Of the Cult of the Scorched," the Dowager says. "I have read into your people's history since our last meeting, dearie. Horrible stuff, barbaric, really, but what more could one expect of a land founded by cutthroats, sellswords, and occultists?"

She smiles, her beady eyes looking about the room, relishing in her own hypocrisy.

"And among them, the Cult, and their singular champions, whose blood burned with the hatred of the demons Fettered upon them through their lost art. Blood they could call upon—blood whose loss had to be replenished after. Your clan and even your captors knew this, even if you did not."

June 27th – root I feel like we’ve been gradually following the saga of R’allick over several recent snips. Here we find out his final purpose. #DawnsBlood #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“I doubt you need to worry. He never disappoints.”
“But people disappoint him, don’t they?” Mikiva noted, pointedly. “And I think we’ve both seen what happens to those people. How he punishes them. In fact, maybe you should be rooting for us. I can’t imagine your fate will be any more pleasant than his.”
	“R’allick wasn’t punished,” Myrith clarified.
	“Could have fooled me.”
	“I know.” She smirked.
Mikiva felt her fists tighten, and she tucked them behind her back, out of sight.
“He was not punished, he was repurposed,” Myrith continued. “He wasn’t competent enough to be useful in his designated role, so he was given another. We all serve, however we can.”
	“Some service.”
“Indeed. His suffering was the necessary catalyst. The lure. He performed his last task admirably.”

Noted.

I was too vulnerable to reply at the time—but thank you for thinking of me everyone. It really does help when I am feeling so isolated. Between doctors, writing and feeling HRT kick in and do its thing, it's been a big week. I'm tired! The hugs are so appreciated! I feel loved.

Hello there, #writingcommunity and #poetry lovers 📚💙 This cup of #poetrybrew is a reminder that you are always in good company with yourself. “Love After Love” by Derek Walcott
Love After Love

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

~An excerpt from the WIP Frogbo written by Jace—that's me :) (word of the day "pyramid" ——→ "[ziggurat]"~

FALLING.

Wait, no. No, that's wrong. Sincerest sorries. Other way around:

*RISING*.

…Or rather—bouncing. *One step. Two steps. Ten. Fifty.* Each dribble tread up and along the [ziggurat] of steps lands with a quicksure and fastidiousmost force springing us closerpon THE CLOCKMASTER's downwards descent. *Two hundred and fifty*.

Something unprecedented is happening again. *Five hundred and eighty*.

Good morning, Frogbo. *Nine hundred*.

You have a purpose now.

*Nine-hundred and ninety-nine*.

Right as THE CLOCKMASTER was to take their first of at least nine-hundred and ninety-nine (plus dais) tumbles, Frogbo's there, being tumbled into, their greenly round and rubbery form—body-ball, head, stretch-legs, heart-and-all, winding itself clockwise across THE CLOCKMASTER's lofty bodice: loftier than our Frog's frailty can raise.

THE CLOCKMASTER falls—safe and snugly encased pon the confines of a rogue rubber frog fated to brace the brunt of each step down whence we came.

*Nine-hundred and ninety-eight*.

FALLING.

Eve smiled and wiped the tears from her eyes, “You really think this can work? The three of us?” She asked, with a small laugh.
“If you think we can free an entire town, what makes you think we can’t make this work?” Michael asked her.
“The triangle is the strongest shape.” Tommy said, “Even though this is more of a V-type situation.” He held up two fingers with a smile. The three shared a small laugh.

#WIPSnips 25. “Pyramid(s)” We’re back to the beginning of Sareena’s story, whose… explosive ending we read a few days ago. #ChroniclesOfTheRealms #NetherTouchedSareena #SayaAshrah #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
Sareena selected Ashrah’s hair, thread by thread, careful to pick the stronger ones. “Once upon a time, I travelled to Seido.”

“The Realm of Order,” Ashrah said, and though her voice remained in its typical monotone, Sareena recognised a hint of wonder in the way the elbhyr raised her chin to speak that name.

“You’ve astral travelled there?”

“On a few occasions. Colossal pyramids built into mountains. Floating orbs of light emanating pure magic. Armies marching with impeccable discipline. I regret not having borne witness to any of their battles.” She hummed, then added, “If any of the mortal realms resemble the Celestial Plane, it must be Seido.”

She spoke of the far-reaching Kingdom of Ardanu, the tainted jewel of Seido. Yes, it was a beautiful, radiant empire, its capital, Orelis, a monument of peace and neatness. If you only looked at it from above, and from a safe distance. Sareena didn’t tell Ashrah how those orbs served as prisons for tiny magical creatures who were forced to spy on the citizens or how that impeccable army hunted alorvum for sport and brutalised anyone who stepped out of the thin line that delineated the kingdom’s ideal of order. She didn’t say any of that, not to spare Ashrah the harsh reality, but because she suspected it might make the elbhyr admire Ardanu even more, and the last thing the Universe needed was more fanatics.

Pyramid → ✨ vibes ✨ | This snip has a lot of 'building' words in it lol. With that said, Tok is visiting Acosta the city for the first time and he has thoughts. #WIPSnips #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #bvm #bipoc #amwriting #Fantasy #SFF
Loud. It was the first thing that came to Tokonus mind and with good reason. The city streets of Acosta had to be the loudest place that he’d ever visited. Even the halls of Favar had not echoed the voices and ambient sounds as harshly on a common day. The barking of vendors bartering wares, the slamming of establishment doors and the marching of feet from one place to another. As a first impression, it left much to be desired.

The second thing that he noticed was how little space there appeared to be. Near every palm of land seemed to be accounted for by the log, and stone buildings blanketed in their sculpted cob. Lanes chasing off between the structures – alleyways as he had been informed – reminded him of his old cave for lack of space between them. Two and three story rises threatened the sky with their stature and commonality.

Traffic along the road was no better with commonfolk congesting the roadways with their
bodies. Small pets and animals scurried about hurriedly as if a forgotten task beckoned them. Tokonus could not imagine Bobo and his cart traveling steady from one end to the other. Yet
Othelia threaded her way through the crowd as if it weren’t there at all. There were no sputtering steps from her feet, but deliberate and measured strides conducted by her perfect posture.

Although the streets began to fluctuate in size and appearance the deeper they traveled into the city, Tokonus couldn’t steal more than a few glances here and there. There was a silent anxiety that if he removed his eyes from his lady for too long, that he might have lost her to the sea of bodies, leaving him marooned within the walls of the labyrinth.

#fantasy #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #WIPSnips #pyramid -> tomb Riding from a monastery they pass the Sacred Tor, a place Rushak has long wanted to visit. - Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by their misunderstood power.
As they rode from the keep, they passed the
Tor itself. It was much larger than Rushak had imagined it would be—a low, gently sloping hill at least the length and breadth of the park beneath Rälla
Etania. A flat face dropping into a short trench interrupted its otherwise perfect roundness. Carved pillars stretched to nowhere from its level summit.
Rusk shivered, unnerved. It was a TOMB. Even now, as he rode past, the bodies of dead kings lay trapped inside where they had lain for greatcycles, unreturned to the earth. In his heart he saw them, cold and silent,
each one so old and so alone.

G'morning #WIPsnips! So i don't have pyramid or tomb or anything like that in ATB, but i do have mention of a very tall, important and prominent building in it so I'm going with that. Very vibey choice overall. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
“The other one said something about Persistence. What is that?”
“The last human city in this part of the world! Here, you can see the Spire through those ruined buildings right there!” he says, pointing ahead and to our left. “It’s the center of the city, where all the tech that keeps humanity alive comes from! Neat, isn’t it?”
As if saying the words flipped a switch in my head, I see the beam of brilliant light shine up into the sky around a distant tall white tower structure. I feel drawn to it, and I have to resist the urge to just start running towards it all of a sudden.
“Are we going there?” I ask him after getting control over myself.
“Yup! Gonna have to go through quarantine first, though! I mean, the discriminator says your clean, but have to be really sure, don’t we? There are better scanners at the gates, but I’m sure you’ll pass no problem! Then you’ll get sorted on the other side and start a new, safe life behind nice, thick walls and more anti-zombie gun turrets than anyone can count!”

A grieving, ancient witch, the vengeful hunter that was hired to kill him, and a closeted gay farmer's son all have one thing in common. They are all under threat of a Puritan cult set to destroy them simply for being who they are. The Witch of Eden Hollow - a 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 fantasy romance [9 Oct. 2026]
Final book cover for "The Witch of Eden Hollow" by G.T. Anthony
It's a dark green cover with pale gold lettering. The centerpiece of the cover is a large ring of woven branches with wilting vines wrapped around it. Within it is a hare sitting and watching the viewer. Behind it is a patch of daisies.Back cover graphic. It's the same forest green as the front, except the synopsis is in that pale gold font:

A Grieving Witch, His Vengeful Hunter, and a Feud between Piety and Magic

Hunting witches is Inquisitor T. Sterling's specialty. Many
hail and revere him for his efficiency and ruthlessness. But
soon, he is about to tackle his most difficult hunt yet.
A small hamlet called Eden Hollow has reached out to him
for aid with their own witch problem. He accepts the job but
soon after realises that his target is not what it seems to be.

Elias' life is tied to the Elder Grove, and he hides himself
away and keeps everyone out with hostile barriers or killing
first and asking questions later.
When this witch hunter stumbles into his life, he knows he
should make quick work of him. But as the forest deteriorates
around him and he is desperate to find out the reason why, this
hunter may be his only hope.

Within Eden Hollow, Avery Miller fights a war within himself
that he fears he will lose. To be devout means to turn his back
on the man he loves. To embrace a strange, all-consuming power
means gambling with the risk of being disgraced. Or executed.

As their lives intertwine and tensions rise, secrets that were
kept locked away seep through the cracks, and what they find
very well may destroy them.

A few paces away, Xia was weeping. Fei had the scout in her arms and was rocking her in her embrace. Kanda had his back turned. He appeared to be whispering a prayer into the gloom.
“Fuck me,” sighed Sleighbor, reloading his Greatlance with slick motions of his green fingers. “This place is a bloody nightmare! You say you do this sort of thing often, Marcus?”
“N-Not like this,” Marcus replied. “It’s not normally like this…”
“What’s it like, then?”
Marcus thought back on his flight with Miriham up the pyramid, pursued by fungus. The drones in the gravity ring. Avalynne’s pods eating the Ultraviolet, not his memory but still very real in his mind.
“I guess it is normally like this, then…” he said. “I should have known better. Sorry, Sleighbor.”

A description of how Dagna's brain works. Regardless, she's usually right. Isn't that just unfair? #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
The room with the statue was basically a tomb, but it didn’t invoke the horror he had expected. Whoever died here had passed long ago, many hundreds of years ago. If Dagna was right, the only difference between this room and the city above was that here, the evidence was still visible and not lost to rain and sun.
If Dagna was right. He had listened to her peculiar way of talking long enough now to know that with all her brilliance, she didn’t have the patience to think twice or bother collecting more evidence. That didn’t mean she wasn’t right often enough, and if she wasn’t, she happily corrected her perspective.

Vibes... Some worldbuilding by Ross staring out of the shuttle's window in 'Ascent'. #WIPSnips #WriteSky
The Alliance never finished it's homework here. Abandoned it in a hurry when the front moved further antispinwards. The superstructure started filling up the outside view as the shuttle leaned into a wide turn. Despite traveling at mutiples of the speed of sound it took long. Dozens of kilometres in plasticrete and glas. Artificial cliffs of countless levels of dwellings, industry and commercial zones. Turning slowly like a model beside them. Tiny seeming holes of ventilation shafts, mostly without rotors, dark and dozens of meters across fly by like tiny pinprics. The complex was dwarfed by spindly docking towers reaching to the lower stratosphere. The shuttle gave a wide berth around this artificial mountain-range. The Ylara-superstructure.

No pyramids in the quaint, pseudo-English village of Upthorpe Thoroughborne, so I've gone with vibes around another ancient stone creation. Despite having lived next door all her life, Ella has never been onto the Keaning Abbey estate and is in for a surprise. From my WIP #Ellamir.
A snippet from Ellamir by Cameron A Malin:
“It was approaching from this direction that the architect and landscaper were thinking of, of course,” observed Ella with approval, “for it appears to far better advantage from here, and the main aspect is much finer than that which we see from the boundary path.”
“Quite so,” said Merely, who had seen it often before but wished to oblige and so turned in his seat to look. As the coachman took them carefully down the winding drive which perched on the valley side, the ancient building, its newer residential wings and the cluster of workshops and farm cottages came and went behind the great trees, some of which were as old as the abbey itself. Eventually they reached the bottom and approached the house between twin formal lawns set with sculpture, some in the familiar classical style favoured by the temples of the Lady of Purity though somewhat less prudent, others of darker stone and stranger form. They passed beneath the gaze of one of them, and casting her eye over its heavily weathered features, Ella made out its sharp slanting eye and pointed ear.
“Merely!” she exclaimed, “It is an elf! A statue of an elf! How extraordinary - why should anyone wish to adorn their garden so?”
Merely gave the statue a very fleeting glance and did not reply at first; when he did, it was to comment on the condition of some rose-bushes that stood by the house, for they had now entered the circular sweep that led to the doors, and Ella could say no more before her attention was required by the man coming out to meet them without waiting for the door-bell, a man who was clearly not a servant and was therefore most likely the new master of Keaning himself.

#WIPSnips Come on, works in progress--not even a triangle? Not even a sarcophagus or tomb? Note to self to add mastabas to the worldbuilding, at the very least. Oh but of course you've got spires, you weirdo freak. And minarets.
From her first visit to Lariz, long ago, she has always seen the city as something that sheds from the Administrative District, whose towering compounds seem to split, and fork, and fall outwards into streets and hovels and marketplaces. It wasn’t until she first climbed the tallest minaret and looked homeward that she realized it was quite the opposite: Lariz is a gradient, not of civilization, but of sand, where dunes shape themselves into sandstone bricks, then pavement, glass, and at last the gems that stud the palatial spires—all desert-birthed and plundered from the sands, same as her.
