#WIPSnips Grilled and Garlic are looking at an alchemy book when they meet an unexpected visitor. A certain woman who snuck in, invisible, and made herself visible to make a deal with the boys... (this woman is Cookie, btw. This is her introductory scene)

Welcome to the Good Thyme Inn

“We’d love to have a Shroud potion, but we need a Lost potion first. Can you make that one?”
She nodded vigorously. “Oh yes! I brewed one not long ago for myself. This part of Aloutia is a good place to brew Lost. The ingredients are plentiful here. Mm, well, except for one. I may need to scout your markets. I do not think Neuropteran shield caps grow here, though it can’t hurt to check your forest.”
Garlic swallowed frightfully. “Be careful if you go into the forest. It belongs to the baron and his guards might arrest you if they think you’re poaching his game, logging, or collecting illegal plants. Wait, the ingredient isn’t illegal, is it?”
The Homopteran leaned over the table, elbows out at sharp angles. Her arm-strings glistened in the green chandelier light above. The boys imagined she was glaring, but those huge, round compound eyes never changed. Never showed emotion.
“That’s why I use Shroud potions when I travel. Nobody must see me. I am only allowing you to see me now because I saw you poring over that alchemy book and—well, I was hoping you’d let me take a peek at it if I offered to help you.”

Cookie and Cream from the Good Thyme Inn books. This art was made by Flaremarant. Cookie is a brown-chitin-skinned insect girl. She has compound red eyes, clear membranous wings, curly orange hair, and segmented limbs. Behind her is Cream, a fluffy white cat with four big blue eyes. Cream is equipped with a harness with some ingredients and a lantern with a white light. All around them, there are mushrooms of a variety of colors and shapes. Amanitas, morels, inkcaps, polypores, etc. It's a very colorful and awesome piece.

#AwesomeCharacters Grilled does not give a FUCK about "good" or "evil", only what he must do to give his loved ones the life they deserve. Aubergine believes he has no place to judge whether his actions are good or evil since he has a literal demon inside him. Two short snippets of their thoughts:

A wicked idea played through Grilled’s head. If Mamallot knew what he was up to, she would have been furious. Which was a load of mud and sludge because Grilled was only doing it for her sake. Still, it wasn’t the first time he’d done something evil so she could stay alive and remain owner of the inn.
It wasn’t the second or third time, either.

Aubergine wondered if he would ever be a father. Oh, there was no question about him being a biological father. That had already been decided. But would he ever raise a child? Would he have to teach them right from wrong? What even was right and wrong? How could he, who bore the essence of a demon within, ever judge good and evil?

#AwesomeCharacters Fun fact: Eggy's name before joining the Good Thyme gang was Cinna and there was a joke that she could become Cinnamon. There were reasons it was a bad idea, so she just went with Eggy instead. However, later on, she'll have a daughter named Cinnamon.

“What are your names?” Shallot asked.
When the distant boy was unforthcoming, the one on Onion’s lap answered instead. “Our master called me Green and him White since those are the colors of our fire.”
Shallot took a deep breath, preparing to hear much about Ophidian cruelty the more questions she asked these boys. That was one topic the newspapers hadn’t devolved into lies about, as far as she could tell. Ophidia really was a nation of the most evil women in the dominion, where boys and men were enslaved for the crime of having a penis, and where every woman had made a pact with a Demon Lord to ensure her slaves remained docile. Shallot normally wouldn’t have put any stock in such salacious rumors, but guests over the years had confirmed them again and again. Former slaves, merchants, travelers, even the occasional lady who admitted that she owned slaves but was vacationing in Aloutia to see more of the world.

Welcome to the Good Thyme Inn

He got on the baron’s pretty red tro-odon and kicked it to run like hell toward Aleton.
Grilled was still invisible thanks to the Shroud potion. If anyone spotted the reptilian bird on a mad dash through the woods, they would think it had lost its rider.
When the bomb went off, his whole world shook.
Grilled felt the wave in his very chest. A thud sent his heart and bones rattling. Even his brain felt like it had hit a wall. The tro-odon fell on its side and Grilled tumbled off, rolling over repeatedly and losing his hat amidst the chaos. His ears rang from the noise and he was momentarily stunned, but even in his moment of confusion, he had the wherewithal to grab his hat.
The tro-odon had scurried back to its feet in a flash and bolted south. When he came back to his senses, Grilled figured the bird was as good as gone now, though maybe some farmer or hunter would find it and put it to good use.

I just had a root canal. My dentist made me so comfy I very nearly fell asleep during the procedure. Turns out, it's not as scary as people make them out to be* *according to my dentist, it's emergency root canals that suck since they can't always get you properly numbed
