A lot of people have averted their gaze from the numbers of kids being crushed and flung aside by mainstream schooling so long as they can look at the results of the survivors and tell themselves that they are achieving exceptional outcomes. They were officially rewarded for doing so.

I work in AP. Greater focus on reasonable adjustments is urgently needed, often more re: interpretation of behaviour policy & exam support than lesson planning, in secondary. And a greater focus on identifying & supporting needs and barriers than diagnoses, as these can take 4yrs+ to obtain.

Replacing policy changes with exhortations to overburdened individual teachers to ‘become more inclusive’ is a great way to *pretend* to change things. Imagine if basic ‘reasonable adjustments’ for uniform, handwriting or homework had the same national prominence as the mobile phone directive.
