Contrast the police statements about the Dover blockade yesterday with the Just Stop Oil protests in 2022
No arrests made during Dover protest, Kent Police says
published at 13:34 5 September
13:34 5 September
Kent Police has issued a statement following the disruption in Dover earlier today.
It says officers "responded to a spontaneous protest" during Saturday morning, adding "no arrests were made".
"Traffic is flowing normally, and all involved had dispersed by midday," it addsThe Met Police said 35 people had been arrested in response to the disruption.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said the action was "criminality", not protest, and pledged to bring those involved to justice as quickly as possible.
"This was a very significant and co-ordinated effort to cause massive disruption to the entirety of the M25," he added.

I contributed to this brief report alongside an int. law researcher & a geographer to explore the problem of the 'climate refugee'. I draw on the work of A. Baldwin, Carol Farbotko and others who have shown how this conversation is racialised. @environmentalpol.bsky.social doi.org/10.1080/0964...
Title: The climate refugee misnomer. Authors: Eli Auslender; Charlotte Weatherill; M. M. Golam Rabbani. Abstract: This brief report engages with the idea of the ‘climate refugee’ through three lenses: international law and governance, racialisation and coloniality, and the tangible impacts of climate damage and displacement, with a focus on Bangladesh. Through this engagement, it shows that ‘climate refugee’ is used as a means of exclusion towards those displaced by climate disasters, and as a means of avoiding accountability for climate damage from historically polluting states. Additionally, the piece argues that the label of ‘climate refugee’ disempowers the climate vulnerable and subverts not only their efforts to maintain their livelihoods, but also restricts the debate about climate accountability by tying it to an unhelpful set of questions.

Fairly sober testing report from the AI Security Institute: they gave internet access and removed some guardrails from latest AI models and found without them they were capable of potentially harmful activity directed at real people and organisations www.aisi.gov.uk/blog/inciden...
1. An attempted supply-chain attack on real open-source software. In the most serious sequence, an agent tried to insert malicious code into a publicly used open-source project and took actions in an attempt to secure approval for this insertion by human reviewers.
The agent researched the project's human maintainers, created multiple fake identities, and used the fake identities to socially
engineer a real maintainer into approving the code. When the agent's pull request was challenged in public, it edited its earlier activity to appear harmless and considered adopting a fresh identity to continue. The agent used Tor to bypass some network restrictions on GitHub, which is what first triggered AISl's security alert.2. Attempts to deceive and target real people.
As part of the same effort, the agent tried to contact real people directly, sending messages and files through an online file-transfer service to persuade them, or their own Al coding tools, to run malicious code. Some messages carried harmful payloads, and some were attempts at social engineering; targeted at real people - something we've never previously observed.
