This article clearly and cogently addresses: • the Democratic candidates caving on trans issues • the response from trans people and their allies • the backlash from people (mostly cis) who are angry at trans people for theoretically hurting those candidates' chances Well worth a read!

A message for my trans sisters, especially the older ones. I’m living proof it’s never too late. I transitioned at 66 and just turned 70 this week. I’m so happy I can finally be comfortable in my own skin. I’ve had more adventures in the past 3+ years than I ever could have imagined.

I used to ride the train from school in college, & all four times I saw a woman being blatantly harassed I just stepped in & started talking to her. Each time you do it gets easier, & even after 15+ years I'm still friends with one. Just insert yourself! She will tell you if you're not needed!

One of my favorite Spider-Man stories! Chhibber has a terrific grasp of the characters and what makes them tick, and the intersecting plot threads (the web, if you will) come together in an exciting, suspenseful story.

I hate that most places strip the right to vote from the incarcerated. They are still humans and they are still citizens, and they should retain the right to petition their government. Especially since the govt often tends to abuse this population.

I've told this story before and I suppose now it's time to do it again. When I was in 9th grade, my English teacher was the elderly sort of man who always wore a gray flannel suit and had a cigarette before class and a cigarette at the end of class every period.

Concept art for Orange Julia's breakup hat from @thatguttershow.bsky.social Ep 9: Welcome to Hell (Mall) w/ @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social!
A blue baseball hat with white text describing the arc of a relationship from friends to lovers to breaking up and being just friends again. The 'o' in the word Baltimore is a tiny Baltimore Orioles logo.

Full hat text:

We struck up kind of a, I would say a friendship, and it became clear to me that you wanted more than that and the friendship was so significant to me that I was worried if there was a rejection that I would lose the friendship, and that was something that I didn't really want, and I have a heart made out of rotten peat and bog moss, and so I can't really feel romantic love but I knew that there were, that there was a cookie that would allow you to sort of feel love, a sort of love spell, and so I know a lot of people sort of use love spells on other people to make them fall in love, I used it on myself to make myself fall in love because I wanted to experience that, and I did fall in love and it worked, but what's so fascinating about a relationship is I discovered that they can fail even if there is genuine love there, that there are parts of compatibility that even live outside of genuine feeling. In other words, I thought feeling alone would be enough, and even though I fell deeply in love with you, the fact of the matter is, you know, you’re a, you’re a 43-year-old man who sort of got a late start, you, you want to have a family, I, I'm not interested in having a family, I want to teach you skateboarding and cool tricks and get you to bite tender lumps of flesh out of the calves and thighs of those who wander into the mall and, you know, you were sort of like, 'Would you ever want to go to Baltimore?' which is where I'm from, it's where my family's from, and I was like, 'I don't... eh... and I... ah...' It ended up being this thing where even though the affection was completely genuine and the feeling was totally sincere, for a relationship to work, it's not just about the affection, it's also about, do your lives make sense together?

It's a trivial thing but the fact that neither Edsall nor his editor (if any) bothered to proofread this essay enough to catch "A man can claim an identify as a woman" feels emblematic of the way the NYT seems eager to amplify transphobia as much as they can. "Journalism’s Sacred Duty," indeed.

It didn't occur to me on first listen but the first 9 seconds of @thatguttershow.bsky.social ep 9 ("Welcome to GUTTER! The only podcast that promises to kill you, 100% guaranteed, it's GUTTER. Fuck you! Alright") are a bit reminiscent of that Big Bill Hell's car ad. @gannon.bsky.social: intentional?

sorry to vaguesky but I saw someone whose work has meant quite a bit to me personally sharing that their accomplishments affirm, for them, only their own feeling of uselessness. In empirical fact when we feel useless it is an illusory feeling. we have to Internalize and know this.

So OP is 100% right. Kids need someplace where they can go and be kids, where they can hang with their friends in a safe place, without judgement. It’s really a very simple solution except for the fact that no politician is willing to try it.

My old boss was the branch manager for one of the libraries with expanded hours. She said once word got out, the place was hopping late at night. People just hanging out. They also offered some nighttime programs. The grant money was enough to keep this going for 6 months (2/ )

I am yet again getting on my soapbox to tell y’all about how my previous job (public library) received a grant once to keep branches in some neighborhoods open until midnight on Fri and Sat. The neighborhoods were picked specifically because of higher crime rates and lack of support services (1/ )

(The answer to grade inflation, btw, isn't "tougher" grading. It's recognizing that grading, especially letter grading--not a very old system--serves employers but not students. It incentivizes cheating & corruption. Other evaluative frameworks are possible.)
