Two observations: First, good to see UK participation in the EU's €90bn loan to Ukraine finalised - unlike SAFE, this went smoothly, and enables both UK financial contribution and Ukraine purchases of UK military equipment counting as 'European':
UK mission to the EU post: The European Council formally adopted the UK’s participation in the Ukraine Support Loan.

Ukraine will now be able to use loan financing to procure crucial defence products made by UK-based industries, strengthening its ability to defend itself against Russia’s illegal war.

“No Kings” rallies highlight how right-wing provocateurs generate content for right-wing media
Right-wing media have been using video content from right-wing content creators, many of whom describe themselves as “independent journalists,” to attack the March 28 “No Kings” rallies, claiming protesters had “idiotic things to say,” calling protesters “quite terrible” people, and accusing them of engaging in “terrorism.” This is just the latest example of the feedback loop between right-wing media and a variety of online influencers and content creators who have emerged to create and distribute content that spreads right-wing narratives on social media. These creators, some of whom have affiliations with right-wing outlets and organizations like FreedomNews and Turning Point USA’s Frontlines, have become part of the right-wing media ecosystem, as right-wing media figures have come to rely on them for on-the-ground footage and evidence in support of longstanding right-wing talking points. These content creators and so-called “independent journalists” descended on the March 28 No Kings rallies in several U.S. cities — including New York City, Nashville, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Los Angeles — for content, using their videos to push the longstanding right-wing narrative that anti-Trump protesters are violent or paid. While 74 arrests were reported in relation to protests in Los Angeles, the No Kings rallies drew out an estimated 8 million people across the United States. Despite the overwhelming number of protesters engaging peacefully, right-wing content creators highlighted confrontations between protesters and police.

NYT quoting AOC when she says “um”: This dumb girl can’t talk NYT quoting Trump after sticking a fork up his nose into his brain and rambling about sharpie pens: Doth thine lion howl with instincts known not learned by man, or sound his sonorous roar as prophecy to gaze back upon history itself?
NYT on Feb. 13, 2026:

The visit also demonstrated the relative foreign policy inexperience of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, who has made a few overseas trips since taking office but does not sit on any House committees devoted primarily to world affairs. She struggled at times to formulate succinct answers at a nighttime panel session, during which she was asked probing and specific questions about how to respond to international crises.

Questioned about whether the United States should send troops to defend Taiwan if China invaded the island, she stalled for roughly 20 seconds before offering a substantive response.

“I think that, uh, this is such a, a — you know, I think that — this is a, um — this is of course, a, uh, a very longstanding, um, policy of the United States,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said, before saying that the country should try to avoid reaching that point with China in the first place.NYT on March 26, 2026:

Mr. Trump is correct that Sharpies are cheaper, but he overstated the cost of past presidential writing instruments. (Whether Sharpies are better is in the eye of the penholder.)
A.T. Cross, which is based in Rhode Island, said it had manufactured the penspreferred by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, all of whom used the Townsend model. The pen, described by Cross as possessing a “bold profile, intricate detailing and superior writing performance,” now retails for about $200. (The classic black version costs about $265.)
President Joseph R. Biden Jr. preferredCross’s Century II model, which the company says brings “modern flair to a time-honored design.” That model is slightly less expensive, ranging from $99 to $270 a pen.
Luxury pen enthusiasts, it should be noted, often describe Cross pens as relatively affordable alternatives to other famous pens made by Montblanc and Nakaya, which can retail for over $1,000.

EU Commission hit by major cyber-attack on its public website platform
The European Commission disclosed on Friday that it suffered a significant cyber-attack on 24 March that compromised its cloud infrastructure hosting the Europa.eu public website platform. According to the official press release , the incident was swiftly contained with no disruption to the availability of the websites and no impact on the Commission’s internal systems. However, early findings indicate that data were exfiltrated from the affected public websites, prompting notifications to potentially impacted Union entities. The Commission stated it is continuing its investigation into the full scope of the breach while enhancing cybersecurity measures. The attack comes at a moment of heightened geopolitical tension, as the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran enters its second month and triggers cascading hybrid threats across Europe. While the Commission has not publicly attributed the incident to any specific actor, its statement explicitly frames the breach within the broader context of “persistent cyber and hybrid attacks targeting essential services and democratic institutions.” This language echoes repeated EU warnings about state-sponsored cyber operations linked to regional conflicts, including those emanating from Iran and its proxies. The Commission’s response highlights its ongoing push to bolster collective defences. The press release references key legislative pillars already in place or recently advanced: the Cybersecurity Regulation, the NIS2 Directive (which covers 18 critical sectors and mandates cross-border cooperation), the Cyber Solidarity Act (establishing a European Cyber Shield and emergency response mechanism), and the January 2026 Cybersecurity Package. These tools are designed precisely to detect and counter large-scale threats of the kind now materialising. Independent analysts and EU officials note that such incidents are becoming more frequent as the geopolitical conflicts spill over into the cyber domain. European energy ministers met earlier this week to coordinate responses to the oil-price spike and Hormuz disruptions, while the High Representative’s office has issued multiple statements urging de-escalation and restraint from all parties in the Middle East. The Commission itself has been actively preparing member states for potential winter energy shortfalls caused by the Gulf crisis, including adjusted gas-storage targets and contingency planning. No immediate evidence links this specific attack to Russian or Iranian actors, but the episode serves as a stark reminder of the hybrid dimension of the aggregated geopolitical crises Europe is facing.
