As more people got access to degrees gradually they weren’t seen as worth as much… fast forward to today where we’re being told machines can & should do our thinking & our work. The oligarchs saying this are descendants (in some cases literally) of the people who tried to keep most of us uneducated.

Seconding this recommendation. I use spoon theory a lot (I find it useful both for self-understanding and in my education/advocacy work), but didn't know anyone had formalised a neurodivergent-specific version of it 👍

Was watching Buffy’s Anya backstory episode. Friend asked why I sighed. “She’s not of a sufficiently high social class to have domesticated rabbits that far north in Europe in that century, but the writers couldn’t know, the paper was only presented at a conference yesterday.” Accuracy is fleeting.

Telling that Wes Streeting considers someone diagnosed with ADHD has been 'written off'. Also telling that the government commissioned a review in the face of independent reviews finding there is no overdiagnosis, just increased awareness & historic underdiagnosis of girls & women.

Many people - politicians, doctors, parents - see the neurodiversity movement & feel the threat it poses to their worldview. If some minds are different, if some of us are fucked by the school system as it stands - totally shamed & brutalised by its inadequacy - that requires radical change.

Mark Fisher says weird things are 'hypernatural'. The monster ought not to be here, but it is here, therefore it is not the monster which is wrong, but our model of the world. That's profoundly destabilising. The monster & my old way of thinking cannot co-exist. This is the threat of the neuroweird.

10. Making it a private, medical, individualised problem by introducing shame (just like Mark Fisher framed the way we treat mental illness) deflects from a social critique of disabling structures like schools and institutions. it’s easier to say “fix yourself” than “the system is harming people.”

8. Accepting ADHD means admitting the level playing field was never level, that success wasn’t pure merit, that the game was rigged toward a narrow frame of cognition. That’s threatening to people who believe they succeeded “on merit”

7. Here's what makes certain people uneasy: To accept reality of ADHD is to accept the system itself is disabling, which means the structures must change, & that threatens those who benefit most from them. Easier to deny ADHD than to accept structural change

3. ~5% of children and 2-3% of adults have ADHD. Far fewer are diagnosed or helped. The UK has lower recognition rates than comparable European countries. The “epidemic” is a myth; the reality is people still being missed

Last night, activists painted a mural near the University of Cambridge Sidgwick Site, leaving a manifesto calling for Cambridge’s staff, students, and community members to organise themselves and take action against the far-right within the institution.
A screenshot of the thisisnotadrill.info website, with a picture of a blue wall with spray painted on it two khamsa and the text No Pasaran!

Someone costs it. It turns out high quality work placements for young people are way more expensive than university. At that point it’s either shelved or downgraded further to an optional six-week teamwork and leadership programme with no work placements.

Emma Frost: "Emma Frost, darling. I'm a telepath. May I read your mind to ascertain if you're telling the truth?"

Miss Piggy: "But of course, darling I am an open book, a tell-all memoir."Emma Frost telepathically witnessing the entirety of Miss Piggy's life.Wolverine: "Frost? She legit?"
Emma Frost: "She's..She's... She's everything. And I would die for her."

If you leave all physical accessibility considerations like ramps and lifts until a building is finished, the retrofit can be difficult (and costly). With both physical and digital infrastructure, it's much easier to build in accessibility from the start. If it isn't accessible, it isn't finished.
