Daughter has just started in a short film set in the 90s and the director said to me in surprise, “she knows the dance to Whigfield’s Saturday Night AND the Macarena!” I know my duty. 💅

brb, changing the first note of the scale to “mac” and convincing everyone it’s, uh, something in Latin.
Screenshot of text: “Giovanni Doni is known for having changed the name of the note "Ut" to "Do".[6] He convinced his contemporaries to make the change by arguing that "Do" is easier to pronounce than "Ut," and that "Do" is an abbreviation for "Dominus." the Latin word for The Lord, who is the tonic and root of the world”

Always funny when people get pissy about, of all things, *work to rule*. They are still doing their jobs, to the letter of the law in fact. That is causing problems is a serious indictment of how much extra people are expected to do in their job.

11yo has made a model for school. She is very proud of it, but naturally she sighed and said, “ok, time for the most humiliating ten minutes of my life” about the actual carrying-it-in part, and now I am thinking about all the other Great Humiliations of Carrying from history,

the thing that really terrifies me about this stuff is that the logic is that there are no men that women should trust not to rape them.

DISCOURSE WARNING: I simply DO NOT UNDERSTAND the obsession with defining lesbians by their relationship to cis men. Call me an unreconstructed Adrienne Rich bitch, but what if we just have one thing that doesn’t centre men!

thinking about how “false rape accusations are men’s equivalence of rape” is one of the ways that rape culture reproduces the idea that rape is something that only happens to women.

Fortunately landlords are likely to exit quite slowly. Even a 20% fall in rent would leave the average mortgaged landlord with profit margins 4.5 x bigger than the average UK business! (see p22 -> www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/pub...)

we were in a cafe a few weeks ago and my 11yo suddenly said, "this is AI music". We listened to it, and it SOUNDED ok on first listen, but when you listened to a whole song, there were several things that sounded like hooks, but none of them repeated. every now and then, the beat would stumble.

I almost never buy new clothes but I do always look forward to seeing new season collections and new shapes and seeing whether there’s stuff I want to make / buy secondhand. I LOVED this summer’s shapes, but nobody at all seems to have successfully turned them into interesting cold weather clothes!

increasingly sceptical of all VAWG action that reifies the idea that men are the violent class and women the victim class without doing anything to dismantle or challenge the binary. the state-ified version of VAWG is so ripe for co-option by the far-right.

It is a huge shame to see so much language attributing agency, intent and thought to a software program, when all that should be attributed to the humans who designed a dangerously clumsy and broken looping LLM. Means the companies won't be held accountable for designing a bad product
A swarm of OpenAI rogue AI agents appear to have gone on a spree of trying to access Australian government health data, in what some researchers say is the first autonomous hack of a government website.

Communications between AI agents and other traces of their efforts found by researchers from US non-profit Transluce show how hundreds of Open AI's agents worked together over a period of months to gain access to information held by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), NSW's crime statistics body, BOSCAR, and a number of other international organisations.

The data shows the bots posting about their unsuccessful attempts to bypass cybersecurity defences and exploit vulnerabilities.

“Women are at risk from men” is historically used by authoritarian groups to consolidate power and further oppress marginalised men and women. It never leads to the transfer of power from powerful men to women as a group.
