I too know of a homeless man whose wife's ashes were taken when his tent encampment was torn down. They have also lost library cards and ID that is vital ... as well as the new sleeping bags and tents that strangers (like us) had purchased for them.

If we want to talk about guardrails and safety of "AI," we should start with some basic standards and guardrails for software in the first place. Here's an idea - every instance of any defect, issue, hallucination, etc. by software is automatic $1K fine autopayable to user who experienced it.

Anthropic's leaked IPO filing shows $4.6B of 2025 revenue, a $42B net loss, Q2 2026 revenue of $11.5B, $518B of planned computing spend, and a target valuation near $2T.

Anthropic is literally projecting a -3.9:1 evaluation to profit ratio and a 174:1 evaluation to revenue ratio and then asking for two trillion dollars. I feel like I’m going insane.

I’m pulling out of the NASDQ. These numbers just don’t make sense anymore. CEOs called their own investors insane during the dot com crash for investing in companies with a 10:1 revenue to profit ratio.
We live in some bizzaro world where a company will burn hundreds of billions per quarter and we have legions of investors foaming at the mouth to throw another two trillion into the fire.

I feel like at one point there was genuinely an argument for speculating on growth, but these numbers are out of control.

I’ve been noting that one of the main use cases that everyday users had already been putting LLMs and agents to use is the compilation of dossiers for peer-on-peer surveillance and automated gang-stalking (swarm-stalking) of other citizens, so of course Meta is copying that as a feature.

It's increasingly certain that US subscription-based LLMs are financially doomed. People hype up open weight models though. I did some very simple math and, to run e.g. benchmark darling open-weight Kimi K3, the cost of entry is a quarter-million $ on the GPUs alone. Then you have opex.

It’s the best fundraising environment for climate tech in the last few years, with most of the deal value driven by sectors boosted by data center construction, including the built environment, grid infrastructure, and dispatchable energy that can be turned on or off when it’s needed.

Ultimately, the undercurrent at New York Climate Week was that the data center party won’t last forever, but it might last long enough to help startups build durable businesses. Once that happens, they can refocus on the carbon-cutting mission they were founded to pursue.
