I think this will be one of the defining images of the Premier League's void years: a proudly working class fanbase celebrating that the ruling family of an oppressive regime had hired a barrister on £10,000-an-hour to try and prevent them suffering consequences for their cheating. Embarrassing.
A bunch of mugs celebrating their perceived impunity

🚨 New from me 🚨 As Infantino fights to retain control of Fifa, and avoid jail, here’s my review of Forward, the self-commissioned book about his first ten years in charge. Studs up. theuglygame.wordpress.com/2026/08/27/t...

Fifa (mis)using article 27 of its disciplinary code to rescue Balogun as it had rescued Cristiano Ronaldo before. A disgraceful decision in line with what we now expect from that organisation. We can guess the reason why it was taken.

Folarin Balogun eligible to play for US v Belgium as Fifa rescinds suspension for red card
The US striker was shown red in the team’s last-32 match, but the card and its suspension were thought to not be eligible for appeal.

With Kai Havertz being the first Arsenal player to score in this World Cup finals tournament, a reminder that the first ever Arsenal player to score in a WC finals tournament was Marc Overmars in 1998 for Netherlands v South Korea. 1998!

We've had enough. The press is one of the last guardrails against Gianni Infantino's autocracy. But Fifa does all it can to crush the media and prevent us from doing our work. An editorial from @josimarfootball.bsky.social. And please support us if you can.

The press remains one of the last checks on Fifa’s power. Gianni Infantino and his media office are cracking down on it.

Latest piece out in @theatlantic.com . Trump's "peace" plan for Ukraine, which he at this very moment trying to force on the country with threats and intimidation, is grotesque. The US president is admitting what too many refused to admit, he wants Putin to win. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Every ad now
[Scene is a kitchen - a middle aged woman called JANET is boiling peas at the stove. A younger more colourfully dressed woman named LIZ approached her.]

JANET:
Ugh...

LIZ:
What's up?

JANET:
I am so bored of cooking peas!

LIZ:
Have you tried...

AI peas?

JANET:
AI peas?

LIZ:
They're peas with AI!

[Liz holds up to us a packet of peas labelled: Pea-i AI - Peas with AI].

LIZ:
Al-powered peas harness the potential of your peas

JANET:
What

LIZ [Now a voiceover as we cut to a whizzy technology diagram of peas all connected by meaningless dotted lines]

Why not take your peas to the next level with Al Peas' new Al tools to power your peas?

[Show a techno diagram of a pea with a label reading 'AI' pointing to a random zone in it]

LIZ:

Each pea has Al in a way we haven't quite worked out yet but it's fine

[Show Janet and Liz now in a Matrix-style world of peas]

LIZ:
With Al peas you can supercharge productivity and make AI work for your peas!

JANET:
What

LIZ:
Shut up

LIZ:
Our game-changing Pea-Al gives you the freedom to unlock the potential of the power of the future of your peas workflow

From opening the bag of peas

to boiling the peas

to eating the peas

To spending millions on adding Al to the peas and then having to work out what that even means.

JANET:
Is it really necessary to-

LIZ [Grabbing Janet by the collar]:
THE PEAS HAVE GOT AI, JANET

[Cut to an advert ending screen, with the bag of peas and the slogan:

AI PEAS: Just 'Peas' for god's sake buy the AI peas.

[Ends]

It is this simple: football has zero responsibility to help the Premier League tackle piracy. This is a problem they caused in persuit of ever higher revenues and profits. There is neither benefit in nor obligation for the rest of football to take any steps whatsoever to help.
