In 2003 my in-laws painted their house in ‘Silver Sage’ — a colour offered by overseas neo-bouge homewares giant Restoration Hardware. While they have moved on to different shades of taupe I’ve used the matched Silver Sage paint chip to paint half a dozen houses. It’s reliable.

I would kill or die for Larry

A small operation in Oregon that hunts truffles with a trained dog has added an unpaid trainee. A cat named Larry accompanies the handler and the truffle dog into the woods every outing, works a patch of ground a little apart from them, and digs with tremendous confidence in places where there is nothing.
The handler says Larry has never found a truffle and shows no sign of understanding the assignment. He does not use scent the way the dog does and he does not respond when the dog makes a find.
He simply digs his own holes nearby and then inspects them. "He thinks he's on the team," the handler said. "He is emphatically not on the team."

Dinner with friend at the gelato cafe tonight; they’ve started leaning into euro deli territory, the quality is excellent. Spanish ham with honey and candied olives, a couple of little lamb kofta and a Morton bay bug roll followed by affogato (chocolate; kahlua). Very welcome change from pub food!
