When things are hard, I like to look for good things around me. I use #1BeautifulThing over on Insta and thought I could carry it to over here. Today has been a Hard Day, so here's a blast-from-the-past #1BeautifulThing that made me smile. Here's LOVE IS CALLING by Yayoi Kusama. #InfiniteKusama
Image of a mirror room full of inflated tentacle-like forms that are covered with black polka dots. The forms are coming up from the reflective ground and down from the mirrored ceiling, and are various colors, mostly pinkish/purple. A white woman with orange hair looks to the camera and smiles as a white man walks in the background behind her.

I wanted to like a post about moving forward, but it used "motherfucker" and I just couldn't. And I know it seems like such a small thing. But language is powerful. The words we use have impact. One small act of activism can be putting that gendered insult aside. "Muckerfucker" works just as well.

My latest cartoon for New Scientist.
First panel: a line of modern electric cars.

Second panel: A woman and a man are talking. She is holding a book.
She says "It's hard to get excited about these new electric cars when I've seen much ambitious possibilities in fiction"
"Sci-fi fan,huh?" he asks

Third panel.
"Uhh... yeah. Sci-fi." she says unsurely, looking at her book.

Fourth panel: We can see a page of the book. It shows animals happily driving food-shaped cars in the style of Richard Scarry. The cars are labelled: Pickle car, Apple car and Hotdog car.
