No, autocorrect, I don’t want to change “be an issue” to “bean issue”…unless I happen to be editing a recipe with specific legume requirements. 🫘 #AmEditing

Proofreading an index and not quite sure what’s going on? Why are things are out of alphabetical order? What’s the best way to cut for length? Come to my EFA webinar to learn what non-indexers should know about indexes! Aug. 14. #edibuddies #AmEditing community.the-efa.org/events/Event...

Some springtime birds I saw while visiting Japan! 🌸🪶
An illustration featuring 6 different species of birds native to Japan, all perched on plum blossom branches with light pink flowers. From top to bottom left to right, the birds featured are: brown-eared bulbul, Japanese tit, common kingfisher, warbling white-eye, rufous turtle dove, varied tit. They are illustrated on a light blue-purple background, with flower petals and feather motifs around them.

I honestly don’t eat a lot of seafood, but I *love* looking at the art on tinned seafood.
A squid is doodled in a very fun blocky graphic designy way and the words read “stuffed squid Portuguese style Lula recheadas a Portuguese”A googley eyed squid with comically large popping out eyes on a red squid with darker red speckles on a can. It says “spiced calamari in ragout sauce”

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed by the number of cool people who are doing cool stuff and sharing it online — visual artists, writers, comedians, musicians. I’m grateful to them all for putting goodness out into the world even when times are tough.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t have to: • “update your wardrobe” every season • add accessories to “style” your outfits • change your style to avoid looking “like a millennial” These rules exist to sell you things you don’t need. If you like your clothes, wear them.

So weird that only one political party is expending this much time, energy, money and political captital to prevent as many people from voting as they possibly can - and ignore or nullify those votes if they feel like it. One would think this imbalance would dominate headlines. 🤷‍♀️

When we return from a trip, it’s interesting to see what the petsitter has been watching on our streaming services. Our last sitter favored true crime shows; the new one watched Harry Potter movies.

fuck it, the world is bad, birds are good, here are some more birds also I took that bluebirds shot yesterday and I really like it (remember, kids, and last reminder for now, make sure you turn ALT TEXT on as required in your settings under accessibility, please)
High up, a blue-grey gnatcatcher leans forward on a bare branch, facing right, and is very clearly yelling at an incoming bug (probably a wasp of some kind). I don't know what it's yelling. Maybe directions, or perhaps incomprehensible gibberish, or a conspiracy theory. Okay it's probably just planning to eat the bug, I dunno. It's beak is open is what I'm saying. Photo by me, Chuck WendigTwo bluebirds square off, though whether in a fight or in a mating ritual or both, I cannot say. On the post is a male, wings partially extended, leaning forward (away from camera) like, "Oh, you want some of this?" And a female (?) bluebird is in midflight, recoiling, as if she wanted to land but realized the guy on the post is a real asshole. The background is faded brown. The post is greenish brown, and scratched up, as if by tiny claws. Photo by me, Chuck WendigA curious looking little orange-breasted gray bird which is a European robin (taken in Sintra, Portugal). It's standing there looking vaguely interested, and also slightly judgy. In left of frame, facing right. Foreground has blurry greenery. Photo by me, Chuck WendigIn a vignetted photo in some green shrubbery (forsythia), an American redstart (black bird with orange wings and side breast) is just open-beaked and singing his heart out, like, some real "LA LA LA" business. a good cheap trick to stay cool is to freeze a bunch of wet washcloths in ziplocks. I use this method a ton for my bad back (heat->cold->heat) but work so well on your neck and back to keep you cool. when one gets warm just stick it back in the freezer and pull another one out

No institution on earth has authority over the English language. The Oxford English Dictionary is just some dictionary. It has some notable strong points but also downsides. A school, venue, or employer can require adherence to a style guide as terms of a deal but there's no official standard.
