If you are creating a fantasy species or a fantasy race, please, please, please, make it clear how to make the name plural. For example, if I said there was a rose-viola hybrid flower called a riola, is it a bouquet of riolas? Or a bouquet of riola? #AmEditing

The squirrels around here have options when it comes to autumnal dining. It's fun to walk by the oak trees and see--and hear--the acorns falling to the ground.
A gray squirrel sits by the side of a sidewalk that is covered in oak leaves and acorns. It is nibbling on an acorn it's holding in its paws. You can see a bit of their winter coat coming in.

Husband, about to go for a walk. Me: Are you going to get snacks? Him: No, I already have snacks. [Time passes, he comes back.] Him: Okay, so maybe I got snacks.

Also, it shouldn't matter that every young woman or woman is a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, etc. to some man. What matters is that young women and women are human beings. Their importance and right to decent treatment is not determined by what man they are related to.

I recently finished North Woods by Daniel Mason. I really liked it.

I like how this submerged tree looks a bit like the bar of a diner and the bear and this gull are sitting on stools waiting for their lunch to be served.
A brown bear in a river snacks on some salmon while resting part of their weight on a partially submerged tree. A gull floats about two or so feet away.

Don’t get too drunk.
Don’t drink from an open cup.
Don’t show too much skin.
Don’t make them think you’re asking for it.
Carry pepper spray.
Don’t take the shortcut.
Don’t walk alone.
Text when you leave.
Text when you get there.
Text when you get home.
And if something happens:
What were you wearing?
How much did you drink?
W by were you alone?
He’s a good kid.
He made a mistake.
He has his whole life ahead of him.
One more chance.
And somehow her whole life was spent trying to prevent it,
while his was too important to be changed by it.

Yes! As the copyeditor for this game, I can say that the pursuit rules in E-Scape are indeed cool. They help to ramp up the tension, which is always great in a session.

The joke-telling ficus had a new sign today! Apparently, a local dental office changes the signs on the plant. Not sure how often they are swapped out.
A ficus in a wicker basket stands atop a table. A sign attached to a plastic stake gives the following joke/riddle: What is the difference between a well-dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly-dressed man on a tricycle?
Attire. What is the difference between a well-dressed man on a bicycle and a poorly-dressed man on a tricycle?
Attire.

I don't touch AI. At all. And I've been vocal about that. One thing that I've tried not to do is to warn people against using certain words or punctuation (e.g. don't use an ellipsis) because it may make their writing look like it was produced by AI. 1/2

One thing that I need to get better at is celebrating my wins. Recently I did two presentations for ACES VCON, and I look to be doing more speaking engagements in the future. These are all big wins, but I haven't really done anything to mark them. Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm imagining this gull thinking, "Oh lord, he's a coming," upon seeing this bear lumbering toward it.
A gull of some sort is perched atop a rock in the middle of a fairly shallow stream. A chunky brown bear, busy fattening up for winter, is heading toward where the gull is.

It's infuriating how much Ai shills don't seem to grasp the concept of "creating", they are so fixated in placing "result" and "creation" in the same category when is not. If you create you are evolving, if you are just throwing results, you are stagnating, dependent on true artists to copy.

As it's officially fall, time for me to repost this photo from 2023. I didn't realize this until this year, but apples are the third biggest agricultural product of Vermont, after dairy and maple syrup.
So. Many. Kinds. Of. Apples. A bunch of apples are for sale at a co-op market. There are also jugs of cider.

A bunch of orange and blue portals are open all across the screen. A very, very long cartoon cat is somehow stretching through all of them. The text: Now you're thinking with portals, appears on the bottom.

I was at the car dealership this morning. I sat in a seat that was near an older woman to my left. A man of around my age was sitting two seats away to my right. When the woman's car was ready, she left. The man got up and took her seat. I don't think he was looking at me. Was this was weird?

I stood up for a fraction of a moment. She did not hesitate.
A tuxedo cat defiantly curled up in a brown arm chair next to an end table with a teapot, cup of tea, and stack of books on it. The labels read "my tea" next to the teacup, "my book" next to the stack of books, and "my unrepentant armchair thief" next to the cat.

I don't know what it is about Scottish terms, but a lot of them would make really good TTRPG character names. I could see a rogue or bard named Mixtie Maxtie who wears different colored socks and clashing patterned garb. #AmEditing
