It's my birthday today! And what better present than this gorgeous print of Blodeuwedd by artist Aled Thompson, that arrived in the post this morning! I love how savage and wild the imagery is, tapping into a very different side of the character than the quaint, floral depictions that we often see.

One week to Wiz-4 launching. As well as @samarcand.northsky.social 's tender "Marooned on Ceres" with a world changing queer encounter... in "Top Tips for Loving a Lizard" Harry muses on the absolute unlikelihood of there being aliens secretly hiding on earth... ... while he's shagging one. #booksky
“The universe was so old and so big, Harry quite accepted there might be intelligence out there somewhere but it would take them thousands of years to travel. He was also convinced that the tribal god of a small sandy plot in the Middle East had not created the world, let alone the universe.
So, who knows what aliens would look like, or think, or how they would have sex? Maybe they’d reproduce by cutting pieces off and repotting them, like his Mum’s geraniums.
Normal people had no time for the idea that the aliens would turn up, then hide, so they could manipulate world zinc prices or something. And how long could they stay secret, really?”

You, Dear Reader, know that Aiden is a lizard. Harry is shagging him and doesn’t.

It is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is 'treat'. Your treat for today is an extract from 'Incoming' by JL George, one of the many fine stories in They Are Still Here, on pre-order now: wizardstowerpress.co...
Her people lived beneath the waves. They had done for centuries, since her father left dry land. Rhys Dwfn was his name—Rhys of the deep, the wise, the long-lived. He’d warned them to stay away from the world above. Land-dwellers had never done him any good, and surely they’d treat his daughters no better.
But Rhys had grown set in his ways. The longer he lived, the more adamant he was that the human world would never change.
He was not exactly wrong. They saw the evidence of that every day, washed into the sea—all the land-dwellers’ waste, plastics that never rotted as live things do, nets that caught up the creatures of the sea and throttled the life from them. Oil, sometimes, an acrid, clinging poison. And sewage, choking clouds of effluent that lingered in the water for days, making the sea-dwellers sick, so that they came to dread the rain.

Book Quote Wednesday's word is 'treat' #BookQW #BookSky If you've been thinking about getting yourself a little morale boost with this ebook bargain, today's the last day to do it. Price-matched on other platforms as well as here on UK Kindle. www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...
Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a creature crouching in a low tunnel entrance lined with grey stones and partly hidden by green undergrowth and white flowers. The creature has pale skin covered in sparse black hair and it looks a bit like an ape, a bit like a bear, and completely unlike either of those.

Book extract reads: I put down the tin and put the kettle on to boil. Then I washed my hands. The formula tin emphasised the importance of keeping things clean. Taking the bottle out of the packaging, I fitted it together. The packaging said I should sterilise it before using it for the first time, but I didn’t have time if I was going to shut the screaming changeling up with a feed.
I didn’t only want some silence. I knew the changeling wasn’t a real baby, but on the way here, I had decided I’d better treat it like one. When whoever was behind this wanted their creature back, I needed it to be healthy. Especially if I had to trade the thing for Fin, or for whatever I needed to know to get her back from wherever she was stuck. That was my priority now Alice was safe with her parents. I’d just have to hope this little monster was as resistant to germs as I am, generally speaking.

Feminism doesn't require women to see trans+ people as the enemy. For many of us, feminism has always meant challenging inequality, standing alongside people whose rights are under threat, and refusing to accept that one group's equality must come at another's expense. That's our feminism too.

The Crooked Medium’s Guide to Terror
A striking book cover with the title and author name dominating.
The lettering and detail are pale against a dark and sinister red-brown. The Title is in large Victorian lettering emphasising the word Terror by size of font and red added to letters – not dripping blood! - and framed by gold. Three roundels show icons related to the book; left, a half folded cutthroat razor streaked with red, top right, pearl jewellery with three pearls and a pearl effect locket; bottom right a burning railwayman’s lamp.
The effect is striking and Victorian.

The cover of Wiz-4 a novella anthology from Wizards Tower Press
The book shows the two novellas by dividing the cover into two triangles the line being top left to bottom right corners.
Left is Top Tips for Loving a Lizard. It shows a jolly green Godzilla holding a smaller ginger King Kong, with a big red heart. There’s a definite more than best friends vibe.
Right is Marooned off Ceres which shows a red moon, a space turtle and a female astronaut who is black. It’s not framed to feel like a threat.
