I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

AI is an employee who never says no, never talks back, and who has no emotions, so you're free to be an asshole to it without consequence. Certain men have been fantasizing about this for their whole lives. They will happily burn the world down to create it.

A dappled cow getting all up in my grill.A rain-wet pony inspects my body, trying to work out if I am till breathing.A donkey marching towards me, annoyed, because I have told it the song 'Cannonball' by Damien Rice is fucking awful.A sheep looking at me with doleful eyes after I made an allusion to its weak ancestry.

We all understand that MAL and Trump properties are practicing birth tourism for profit, right? Young women come to stay in hopes of getting visas. Many are probably trafficked for profit, and who knows what actually happens to their kin. Many are Russian. www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/lo...

I don't describe a lot of stories as a must-read, but this one should be for Toronto voters. I heard the words 'ideologically rudderless ambitionist' used to describe a different politician. But I think they apply to Brad Bradford, too. #GiftLink 🎁 #ToPoli #BikeTO www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...
I’ll have more on Chow in a later column. But the Bradford conversations have been striking for their near uniformity. Most of the people I’ve spoken to, from across the political spectrum, don’t disagree with Bradford so much as they dislike him as a person. Several supporters told me they found Bradford weirdly intense. Chow backers — including many who once stood with Tory — and those with no horse in this race went much further. They told me — almost to a person — that they find Bradford unprincipled and disloyal.

This is more than just the normal political griping. For whatever reason, many who have worked closely with Bradford over the past eight years think he is almost uniquely unlikable. I’m not sure I’ve ever covered anyone who inspires so much personal vitriol. Many — and not just progressives — think he would be a terrible mayor, not because he believes in awful ideas but because they don’t think he believes in anything at all.

It is almost incomprehensible. California’s Habeas Corpus Resource Center (a state agency) reported in May of this year that the death penalty costs the state over $200 million a year, meaning California spent at least $6.8 billion on its death penalty system between 1978 and 2025.
