I wrote a little something about how we should better separate the legitimacy of the challenges people are experiencing from the legitimacy of what they're then holding up as the solution to those problems. dmitryopines.substack.com/p/on-legitim...

I think the talk of a ‘revolving door’ and the way in which permanent settlement is clearly described as a negative development forgets that these are human beings, wanting the best lives for themselves. And I’d add the right never has to make these concessions.

20. Finally, it is so important to respect the water and acknowledge the dangers involved for those crossing the English Channel in open boats and rough weather today. The hostility towards RNLI crews selflessly preventing loss of life must be utterly condemned. Support the RNLI here: rnli.org 20/20

It never stops being important that, no matter what the subject, politicians like Farage, Trump & Rubio are entirely untethered from the most basic requirements of honest discourse. They might turn out to be telling the truth sometimes but only ever in the spirit of stopped clocks.

The fact that many of the people on UC are also working is not mentioned until way, way down in this Times story. Same for the detail that lots of previous benefits have been phased out and rolled into UC. But above all, the TPA is a pressure group funded by people who avoid and evade tax.
One in five adults are on universal credit
More than seven million people are claiming the UK's main benefit, including a million people in their twenties, Taxpayers' Alliance research says
