New strong candidate for best sentence of journalism in 2026 just dropped in this wild Kimberly Guilfoyle story from WSJ “‘Honey please I need you to get this done for me today,’ she texted [Eric] Deters, adding a prayer hands emoji and a PDF with bill payment instructions from American Express.”

Do culture and music writers at rolling atone not know about algorithms? Personalized feeds are perhaps *the* defining characteristic of our contemporary media landscape yet this writer thinks we all tune into american bandstand then get our news from walter cronkite.

You can’t put a percent on the chance AI ends the world bc we have absolutely no data to estimate it with. The error bars are +/- infinity. And yes, I know, Bayes exists for these subjective cases, but then the initial subjective priors matter. I 🙄🙄🙄 at this sort of faux quantification.

You dont need to “side” with anyone, if you so choose. Again, you are assuming a lot about my position based on nothing at all. I was just trying to explain the mechanics of legal representation, about which *you* are plainly quite naïve. I dont care what you think about any of this otherwise.

Esau @gesau.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Im neither naïve nor angry. You have assumed my motivations (poorly). I dont have enough facts to have any opinion at all about the underlying matter. Maybe elias is right. Maybe the times is wrong. I have no idea. My point was that elias would not need to fire them as a client, as you claimed.

Esau @gesau.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
You are not obligated to do whatever your client says. You can represent them in election lawsuits, and then when the call up and ask for a demand letter to a journalist you can just say “no, ill do the other stuff still but not that”.

So much going on there, but the characterization of europeans as believing of G.W. Bush was “Rambo, Clint Eastwood, and John Wayne rolled into one” is so funny and revealing.
