Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

🎉 Out today in Cell: the paper I've been looking forward to sharing for a long time 🎉 We used cryo-ET to find a molecular machine nobody knew existed on the surface of a minimal bacterium, and worked out what it does. 🧵(1/7) #TeamTomo #cryoET

Using Claude science for a « in silico » structural biology project. Definitely very useful to automate processing pipelines and data processing. But makes a lot of errors and is going in the wrong direction if not carefully guided and monitored. To be handled with great care

Here is the problem with IA leadership. One day they say something that seems reasonable (regulation, safeguards), and the next something completely nuts… It shows that these people cannot be trusted to manage such a sensitive technology.

IA needs regulation and safeguards. A powerful technology that is extremely useful but also could be (is already) very dangerous.
