A good fresh Star Trek take on those fake isekai title jokes
A tumblr screenshot showing a post and two reblog responses, reading:
1. "star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you'd explain your situation and they'd be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system's icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home"
2. "I'm from a universe where your world is all a work of fiction." Benjamin Sisko, nodding. "That happened to me once."
3. "I Got Isekaid Into The Star Trek Universe And They Quickly Understood What Was Happening"

Another element of 1990s nostalgia that often gets ignored is how the USA was gaga for Celtic and New Age music. Remember those CD kiosks in the big box stores?

Is a manta-ray skin table a table with the skin of a manta-ray covering it or some sort of dermatological aid for manta-rays? Because if it's the latter, that's pretty thoughtful about the needs of our friends from the sea. If it's the former, that's bizarre and monstrous.

We spent a generation telling students the humanities are moribund, and they should all study STEM, only for the greatest advances in STEM in recent years to raise fundamental questions about the nature of personhood and identity that require the humanities to answer. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/u...

On this evening in 1941, "The Maltese Falcon" premiered in New York. And it's still good---but you won't need much of anybody's help. You're good. It's chiefly your eyes, and that throb you got in your voice when you say things like, "Be generous, Mr. Spade."

So, here's the thing they can't erase about AI-generated "work" no matter how much they try to cover up the environmental cost of data centers, the theft of human work to feed into the woodchipper, etc.: It's still just faking it. Your AI-written email is a fake email. Your "art" is fake art.

Took a (very) rainy walk through the Loop tonight. I was absolutely soaked, but my camera stayed dry enough.
The pavement in Chicago is wet from a day-long rain. Street and traffic lights reflect on the stored in vivid colors. In the foreground, a person with an umbrella is an out-of-focus silhouetteCalder's Flaming - an orange, abstract metal sculpture in Chicago stands in a wet, reflective plaza. The sculpture is reflected in the rain coating the plaza's stone pavers in the evening with buildings in the background

On Sept. 30, 1958, Canadian children were treated to a new show. It featured a giant who told them to "look up!...waaaaaay up!" For the next 27 years, the show was a fixture on CBC and is beloved to this day. This is the story of The Friendly Giant! 📸 CBC 🧵 1/12
