I’m doing a 5K on October 18th to support cancer research. I wanted to do something fun, so in addition to wearing an N95, I will wear an additional N95 on my person for every $50 donated (runsignup.com/mask). Thanks for a reshare or any contribution. Even a penny would help! Details in ALT text.
I’m doing a 5K on October 18th to support research at the Tulane Cancer Center, here in the Deep South.

I wanted to do something fun, so in addition to wearing an N95, I will wear an additional N95 on my person for every $50 donated (http://runsignup.com/mask).

$50 = 1 N95
$500 = 10 N95s
$5,000 = 100 N95s
$50,000 = 1,000 N95s

Any partial donation would help. $10 would add an additional mask for 1K of the race. A penny would add 1 meter with an additional mask. I’ll sum partial donations and round up in the end. Even a penny🪙 or reshare🔁 would help.

FAQs

World Record
🔹There does not presently appear to be a Guinness World Record for most N95s on an individual in a 5K.
🔹This year, I will go for an informal record. Guinness has not yet responded to my request to go for an official record, but there is always next year.

Good Health, Safety, and Environmental Modeling
🔹I will mask properly. Extra masks will not be worn on top of my mask.
🔹All masks will be individually-wrapped N95s. I will eventually wear them or donate them, if someone wants them.

Caveats
🔹It’s a fun run. All donations are final, even if weather or an injury strikes.

Inclusivity
🔹There are many ways to support health and health justice. Please also contribute to your local mask bloc or engage in advocacy in other ways too. There are many great causes.
🔹Many people with chronic and serious illnesses are housebound or cannot run or could run but would then crash for days or weeks after. This is no endorsement of the primacy of exercise-based activities.

How Your Donation Helps
🔹Your donation supports the fight against cancer and normalizes masking.
🔹Funds support the Tulane Cancer Center. Last year’s funds went toward a project to reduce the chances of bone metastases in the context of breast cancer.
🔹I avoid financial conflicts of interest like the plague, so I will not accept any payments or apply for any funds.

Please help spread the word!

What politicians say their values are is important. What's equally important–if not more so–is how they stand up for those values and who funds their campaigns.

you may never know which choice to mitigate was the game changer, but should you make a choice not to when you wish you had… idk that’s a tough thing to live with. we live in a world that is distinctive from the 2019 many wish we were still in—it’s worth rising to the occasion.

it can happen to anyone. it can happen to you. acting like it won’t will not preserve your health, your beloved abilities. why risk something so precious all the time? even some masking in public indoor spaces at the very least is better than none.

Bonus number 6: Stop installing apps for everything. The reason every store has their own app is not convenience, it's to stalk you. It is not worth the 10% discount.

5. Finally, wear a face mask any time you go to the store. Cover your face from the nose down, so the register cameras don't have extra data to sell to the cops.

If I could give 3 to 5 very rapidfire security tidbits right now, they would be these: 1. Turn off location data in your photo apps, and turn off ALL location sharing/location tracking (or at least change it to only be "when app is in use).

Having Jo Ann's endorsement means so much to me. She is literally the reason we have PCEF and Portland Street Response — two of the most important policies passed in Portland in decades. Her contributions to our city cannot be measured. Please wish Jo Ann a happy birthday, too! (1/2)
A blue background with a picture of Jo Ann Hardesty. The text reads:
Former Portland city commissioner and community advocate, Jo Ann Hardesty endorses Mitch Green for Portland city Council district 4 Mitch isn't beholden to the status quo.
He's successful, he's able to build coalitions, and he's able to talk to people in plain language. That terrifies the powers that be, because it means they lose influence. This is supposed to be the people's house, and I think Mitch carries on that tradition.

The way the leading AI labs regularly produce situations that would otherwise be plainly read as criminal behavior on their part, but which force the world governments and media to play-act as if the chatbots did all the criming autonomously is a critical part of the construction of this reality.

News orgs and journalists rationally understand the person responsible for using a stick to poke someone in the eye is the person holding the stick, but they are engaged in a collective performance to say it is the stick because this allows for the construction of the make-believe world of AI power.

The social role that automata (robots, AI) play is the dispersal of responsibility by constructing a performative world where agency and blame can be assigned to the automation instead of to the people who operate it; thus allowing people to get away with abusive and illegal activity.

A lot of the bias comes from the left actually trying to govern and organized capital (and their agents at the Portland Metro Chamber) feeling threatened. A lot of it also comes from the left being Pro-Palestine. Either way, an expected but embarrassing immunological reaction.

The illustration is of a desktop computer covered in miscellaneous nerdy stickers - a pair of crossed battle axes, a lesbian flag, a skull, lots of yellow stars, etc - with an image onscreen that looks like a chat room where messages are being exchanged, a couple text boxes and then an image where you can see a triangular red flag.

Below the image is a content warning for "some strong language and mature themes" as well as the show information:
