I think “we don’t know what the victim wants“ is a lazy excuse to continue living in the comfort of staying ignorant. The first course of action is always to remove access to the victim, their shared spaces and spaces where it is possible to retraumatize the victim. That’s the baseline.

Restorative justice does not put the emotional labor and pressure on the victims. Forgiveness does not mean restoring access. And living with the consequences of your actions has no expiry date if the victim has to do it for the rest of their life. A lot of you should fucking sit with that.
