Between a new "Harry Potter" TV series and a new televised execution, December is shaping up to be a tremendous month for things that there's no legitimate justification for watching if you aren't professionally required to watch.

When the bad man finally drops dead we can all move on. We'll still be sharing a country with countless people who gleefully aided and abetted his crimes but they probably won't do it again

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

When my father was faculty at Cornell he was stopped by the police chief in the street & asked who he was & where he was going. When he balked at the fact that no one but him, an Arab man, was being asked, the chief said “I’m just protecting students” Same guy failed to investigate 7 rapists.

We’ve got the inside story of how Trump’s displeasure with seeing homeless people in D.C. became the first domino in a series of actions that culminated in the administration’s stunning decision to weaken the rights of millions of disabled Americans to live in their homes and communities.
nbcnews.com
How Trump’s homelessness crackdown became a sweeping retreat from disability rights
After issuing a memo making it easier to institutionalize homeless people, the Justice Department began abandoning cases protecting disabled people’s right to live in the community.

I'm not a Libertarian (because I'm no longer 14), but i put myself in the mind of an Ayn Rand acolyte for this quiz. 9 states would let me start a school with no experience, no tests, no core curriculum, etc. See where you can open your dream academy: projects.propublica.org/private-scho...
You could open NextGen Free-Range Academy in Texas and eight other states.
Your school’s name comes from your answers to Question 3, “No. I want the freedom to teach whatever I see fit, whether it’s Scripture or homesteading,” and Question 10, “Cool tech words like ‘NextGen.’”

"Medicaid work requirements" are above water with the American electorate (net +18). Calling the same policy "Medicaid eligibility cuts" meaningfully decreases support (net -11). I do not understand the insistence on adopting the framing of those trying to destroy Medicaid

this doesn’t actually make any sense
The Kennedy Center has held used Steinway piano sales in the past, so AlterNet reached out to Jenny at Steinway in Washington D.C. to ask if the sale was happening again this year. She explained that it would not, as the Kennedy Center had closed.
She said the shop owner intends to retire and close, so they're selling all their pianos at a heavy discount. With the Kennedy Center closed, the shop is also moving all the Steinways to offer for sale. AlterNet asked why the Kennedy Center would need to sell everything, and she made it clear that it was because it was "closed." She
referred all other questions to the Kennedy Center.

An infographic on a cream background displays a businessman's silhouette on the left and a quote on the right. The silhouette wears a suit jacket, white shirt, and tie. Its interior is packed with miniature illustrations of people working at office desks. At the very bottom of the torso, rows of green boxes filled with cash symbolize the financial corruption propping up the leader's power. To the right is a dark serif quote by Heather Marsh from her book Binding Chaos. It reads, "A charismatic leader is given authority seldom commensurate with any expertise or experience. Where the representative falls short in knowledge or experience, they then have the authority too ire the needed expertise, providing a perfectly fertile ground for corruption and cronyism, as well as incompetence." The author's name is printed below in terracotta orange. Decorative accents include an orange quotation mark badge at the top and small geometric color swatches in the corners.

We're talking turning people away with illnesses such as kidney failure, multiple sclerosis and bipolar disorder. And what does this White House say? Well, as you can imagine, it's the "cruelty is the point" plan (see below). At this point, Trump & Rs aren't *even putting Americans first*.
“Aliens in the United States should be self-sufficient and should not depend on U.S. taxpayer resources to meet their needs, and the availability of public benefits should not be an incentive for immigration to the United States,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement this week.

Lauren Bis, a White House spokeswoman, said in a statement that President Trump would “always put American citizens first.”

Some refugees said they had ailments that they informed the U.S. government about before they were granted status, while others developed them after arriving.
