An infographic on a cream background displays a businessman's silhouette on the left and a quote on the right. The silhouette wears a suit jacket, white shirt, and tie. Its interior is packed with miniature illustrations of people working at office desks. At the very bottom of the torso, rows of green boxes filled with cash symbolize the financial corruption propping up the leader's power. To the right is a dark serif quote by Heather Marsh from her book Binding Chaos. It reads, "A charismatic leader is given authority seldom commensurate with any expertise or experience. Where the representative falls short in knowledge or experience, they then have the authority too ire the needed expertise, providing a perfectly fertile ground for corruption and cronyism, as well as incompetence." The author's name is printed below in terracotta orange. Decorative accents include an orange quotation mark badge at the top and small geometric color swatches in the corners.

Screencap of transcript

Lussenhop: The document is from the OALC, it’s titled, “Guidelines for the prevention of violence, harassment and sexual abuse, and how to handle such incidents.”

POLICE INTERVIEW, Bruckelmyer: … and we don’t protect either one. We don’t.

Lussenhop: We don’t protect either one, meaning we don’t protect the perpetrator or the victim. Andy and I thought it was pretty chilling to hear it put that way.

Mannix: It was just a little bit surprising to me that, that he kinda said the thing that we were trying to verify. But in a way that he was almost presenting as if it would absolve him.

Lussenhop: We got a copy of those church guidelines. They talked about things like educating members about abuse, recommending counseling, but we zeroed in on a couple lines in the policy that seemed to describe what we started calling a forgiveness session: “When harm has taken place: Individual conversations with the victim …”

If you find yourself saying, "I don't need to know about it to have an opinion," remember that opinions are like assholes.
to learn anything entails the fact that there is no way to escape learning that you were formerly ignorant, to learn that you were a fool, that you have already lost irretrievable opportunities, that you have made wrong choices, that you were silly and limited. These lessons are not pleasant. The acquisition of knowledge— especially when we are young— again and again includes this experience. Older children tease us for what we don't know. Teachers condescend to us as they instruct us. (Long ago, they beat us for forgetting.) In the school yard we overheard the third graders talking about how dumb the first graders are. When we reach the third grade, we ourselves contribute to such discussions. Thus most people soon actively desire to stay clear of the whole process, because by the time we are seven or eight we know exactly what the repercussions and reactions will be. One moves toward knowledge through a gauntlet of inescapable insults— the most painful among them often self-tendered. The Enlightenment notion (that, indeed, knowledge also brings "enlightenment" — that there is an "upside" to learning as well: that knowledge itself is both happiness and power) tries to suppress that downside. But few people are fooled. Reminders of the downside of the process in stories such as that of Adam and Eve can make us—some of us, some of the time, because we are children of the Enlightenment who have inevitably, successfully, necessarily, been taken in— weep.

We say we are weeping for lost innocence. More truthfully, we are weeping for the lost pleasure of unchallenged ignorance.

“Your petitioners apprehend that they have, in common with all other men, a natural and unalienable right to that freedom, which the great parent of the universe hath bestowed equally on all mankind, and which they have never forfeited by any compact or agreement whatsoever, but they were unjustly dragged, by the cruel hand of power, from their dearest friends, and some of them even torn from the embraces of their tender parents,” reads the 1777 petition of “a great number of Negroes who are detained in a state of slavery.” It is signed by Prince Hall — a leading member of Boston’s Black community — Lancaster Hill, Peter Bess and Brister Slenser, among others not listed.

“The government is trying to satisfy an audience of one, the president, while at the same time trying to play this rope-a-dope game with the court so that the court might not rule against them, they might say that a case isn’t ripe yet.” If they're running a con on the judiciary, it's not over.
While Trump and his aides speak publicly about the alleged threat of noncitizen voting, in court the Justice Department seeks to minimize the extent of the actions the federal government has taken to carry out the executive order, Becker indicated.

“So I think this is a case of the government trying to have it both ways,” Becker said. “The government is trying to satisfy an audience of one, the president, while at the same time trying to play this rope-a-dope game with the court so that the court might not rule against them, they might say that a case isn’t ripe yet.”

In response to questions from States Newsroom, Homeland Security said in an unattributed statement that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an agency within DHS, is “lawfully implementing” the executive order.

“President Trump has been clear: Nothing is more fundamental than the integrity and security of our elections,” the statement said.
Quest for voter rolls

The Trump administration has spent the past year attempting to obtain unredacted state voter rolls to feed into a powerful Homeland Security computer program that can identify potential noncitizen voters. The Justice Department has filed more than 30 lawsuits seeking to force states and the District of Columbia to turn over the information, but so far none have been successful.

Eight states — including heavily Democratic California, Oregon and Washington — have all-mail elections, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. For those states, complying with the executive order would effectively mean turning over the names of all or nearly all their voters to the Postal Service.

www.foreignaffairs.com/iran/irans-n...
When Ali Khamenei’s generation confronted the world—in hostage negotiations, nuclear talks, regional confrontations—there was always an undercurrent of grievance, a voice rising in the rhetoric of historical injustice and Islamic vindication. It was powerful and real, but a strategic liability. It made them predictable, defensive, and prone to conflating the defense of their ideology with the defense of Iran’s national interests, which did not always neatly align.

The new generation has separated revolution from statecraft. At home and abroad, it neither espouses revolutionary grandiosity nor advocates revolutionary activism. The new leaders are establishment actors: pragmatic, hardened nationalists operating with a clear-eyed assessment of Iran’s capabilities and vulnerabilities. Unlike their predecessors, they can exercise strategic patience and act decisively. They look at Iran’s weaknesses frequently and publicly—something the founding generation was too insecure to do honestly—and they treat them as problems to be solved. That instinct drove the changes Tehran made between the two wars.

“There are no US service members involved in combat operations or hostilities in Lebanon,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, ahead of the vote, according to CBS. "We stand with the Lebanese people, the government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces in their efforts to live peacefully and defeat Hezbollah.”

Jeffries reportedly added that they would support an alternative proposal that would maintain US and Lebanese coordination against Hezbollah.

Chieng, who grew up in Singapore and lived part of his childhood in Manchester, New Hampshire, reminded students that creativity is a deeply human endeavor. “Creating is the fun part,” he said. “Why would I want AI to take that away from me? The best part of comedy is figuring out the puzzle pieces of a joke and getting the self-regard from having accomplished a difficult thing.”

He continued, “Whatever your chosen profession is, please don’t let AI rob you of the fun part of it. Your generation’s upcoming battle won’t be humans against AI; that’s at least two months away. … It’s going to be people with substance versus people with shallow knowledge. It’s going to be mastery versus faking it. It’s going to be people with good taste versus tacky. I trust you will put in the work necessary to be on the right side of those battles.”

Andy Kim for New Jersey (blue check)
May 24, 2026 at 3:12 p.m.

I rushed to ICE detention center Delaney Hall yesterday when I heard detainees began a hunger strike. Here’s what I saw:
-18 yr old high school student crying and saying she just wanted to graduate senior year
-Pregnant woman unable to get full OBGYN medical support
-Woman who had a miscarriage in the detention facility and left to manage all on her own
-Mom not allowed to spend more that a few minutes with 4 month old baby
-Husband of American citizen wife and kid
-A carton with the milk inside congealed solid (expiration date is tomorrow)
-Man there for nearly a year with no movement in his legal efforts
-A document showing next Tuesday’s court docket showing 74 cases before 1 judge in one day (averages about 5 min a case)
-man telling me ICE trying to deport him to DRC where there is active Ebola outbreak (he’s from South America originally)
-Numerous people who were arrested at scheduled interviews for green cards (trying to follow the formal process)
-Family unable to find out what hospital their family was sent to (ICE said they cannot give any medical updates to families of hospitalized detainees)
-The Statue of Liberty as I left the facility to drive home.
Treat humans as human. Spending tens of billions of dollars from American families to perpetrate cruelty against people who aren’t violent criminals or felons is a waste of money and wrong. Let’s stand against Trump and Republicans in Congress from passing this reconciliation bill to give ICE tens of billions more in the coming weeks. Our government should focus on helping Americans afford their lives, not lock people up in for-profit detention centers where corporations like GeoGroup and CoreCivic make $billions. No profiting off of human misery.

"Right now, we are demanding that senators withhold their votes from any bill unless it meets these minimum conditions:

Ensures there is not one penny more for ICE or CBP
Pulls ICE and Border Patrol out of Minneapolis and the rest of our communities
Prevents ICE or Border Patrol enforcement at designated ‘sensitive locations’ such as houses of worship, day cares, and hospitals
Restricts ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to target people based on their race, language or accent, place of employment, or location at the time of the apprehension
Ends the administration’s unlawful practice of warrantless home entry and arrests

We know that’s a little in the weeds, so we’ve simplified the message in the call script below. Please fill out the form and we’ll connect you to your Senator. Tell them they must act now to rein in ICE."

There are two internets: the free, open source country of Wiki and LibreOffice and Linux; and the ghost mall that is Facebook and Twitter. www.wheresyoured.at/the-enshitti...
Facebook was a huge, free platform, much like Instagram, that offered fast and easy access to everybody you knew. It acquired Instagram in 2012 to kill off a likely competitor, and over time would start making both products worse — clickbait notifications, a mandatory algorithmic feed that deliberately emotionally manipulated people and stoked political division, eventually becoming full of AI slop and videos, all so that Meta could continue to sell billions of dollars of ads a quarter. Per Kyle Chayka of the New Yorker, “Facebook’s feed, now choked with A.I.-generated garbage and short-form videos, is well into the third act of enshittification.”In November 2025, Reuters revealed that Meta projected in late 2024 that 10% of its annual revenue ($16 billion) would come from advertisements for scams or banned goods, mere weeks after Meta announced a ridiculous $27 billion data center debt package, one that used deep accountancy magic to keep it off of its balance sheet despite Meta guaranteeing the entirety of the loan.

One would think this would horrify investors for two reasons:

Meta’s business is both supporting and profiting from organized crime, and at 10% of its revenue, it’s also kind of dependent on it.
Meta is using deliberate and insidious accounting tricks to act like a data center that it is paying to build and will be the sole tenant of is somehow an “off balance sheet” operation. One would be wrong. Morgan Stanley said a few weeks ago that it is “one of the handful of companies that can leverage its leading data, distribution and investments in AI,” and raised its target to $750, with a $1000-a-share bull case. Wedbush raised Meta’s price to $920, and Bank of America staunchly held firm at…$810. I can find no analyst commentary on Meta making sixteen billion dollars on fraud, because it doesn’t matter to them, because this is the Rot Economy, and all that matters is number go up.

Meme produced a church with a logo in the lower left corner that resembles rising flames in the pride flag colors, but blue and purple are a few shades off. It reads

Lord, make me an instrument of your disturbance. Where there is apathy, let me provoke.
Where there is compliance, let me bring questioning.
Where there is silence, let me be a voice.

Where there is too much comfort and too little action, grant disruption.

Where there are doors closed and hearts locked, grant the willingness to listen.

Wen laws dictate and pain is overlooked, when tradition speaks louder than need;

grant that I may seek rather to do justice than to talk about it.

Disturb us, O Lord, to be with, as well as for, the alienated; to love the unlovable as well as the lovely;

Lord, make me an instrument of disturbance.

Dk why thinking of Zitkála-Šá today
Image of Zitkála-Šá wearing a long gown with puffs at the shoulders, posing with her violin in front of Victorian floral wall decorations. Photo by Gertrude Kasebier, c. 1898. National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution.

In the late 1800s, she was sent to a boarding school designed to strip away her heritage and culture. Instead of giving up, this amazing woman used her talent to fight back in the most beautiful way possible.

In 1913, Zitkála-Šá wrote the libretto and songs for the first-ever Native American opera, "The Sun Dance." It was a revolutionary fusion of traditional Native American melodies with European classical music forms. She created a powerful statement that Native American culture deserved recognition and respect on the world's biggest stages. While boarding schools were trying to destroy Native American culture, Zitkála-Šá mastered classical music and then used it as a weapon of cultural preservation. Her opera was based on the sacred Sun Dance ceremony, which was banned by the U.S. government at the time. Through music, she preserved her people's traditions.

But Zitkála-Šá's impact went far beyond music. She became one of the most important Native American rights activists of her time, using her platform and fame to fight for justice. She co-founded the National Council of American Indians and spent her life lobbying for increased political power for Native Americans. Her music gave her a voice that couldn't be silenced.

Today, Zitkála-Šá reminds us how art can be the ultimate form of resistance. She honored her roots while mastering new skills, and that creativity can be the most powerful tool for social change. This is what happens when talent meets determination and cultural pride! Zitkála-Šá continues to inspire musicians, activists, and anyone fighting to preserve their identity in a world that tries to erase it.

Tumblr user yardsards:
when i first moved in with my roommate, she was constantly throwing up and attributed it to some unexplainable chronic issue. after a year with me here, she's learned a lot about proper food preparation and storage, as well as having me sort of on top of managing groceries, and she almost never gets sick like that anymore.
anyway i think that woman might be one of a kind but just in case she's not: if you find yourself having frequent tummy troubles with no clear explanation... maybe just. try refreshing your food safety knowledge. (also don't forget to wash your water bottle). like, chances are you've been doing everything right and there's some other reason. but there's a nonzero chance that something you assumed was common sense is actually incorrect and you've been repeatedly making yourself sick.
people think kitchen management is totally easy and intuitive (prolly something to do with it being degraded as "women's work" but i digress) but there's science to food safety. and the people who raised you may have failed to teach you properly, whether through negligence or through not knowing everything themselves. it can't hurt to double check your knowledge here, just in case.

Three of the same image from Kimi Floyd It was the only way to fit all of the alt-text
Yesterday, I was not allowed to check in for my return flight from Denver. When I arrived at the airport, I was told my legal name change had been reversed in the system and that I needed to prove my identity and gender using my old ID.
But my name change was fully legal six years ago. I have complied fully with TSA requirements. My profile is updated, I met every condition to obtain a Real ID, and Delta already had my complete documentation. The gate agent even confirmed that my name in the system and on my boarding pass exactly matched my ID, as did my gender (listed as F, which is the only option in SC). And yet I was still pulled aside.
I had to hand over my phone (which I refused to unlock so they just held it until I was done). My ID and every credit card in my wallet were examined. I was told I would only be allowed to board if I went through “additional screening.” That meant every item in my carry-on and my suitcase was inspected and swabbed. I was swabbed for explosives. Then a female agent performed a full pat-down and even asked me to lift my shirt because my chest shows the curve of pectus carinatum, a condition caused by lumbar scoliosis. They suspected I was carrying a concealed weapon pack on my body.
And this is not the first time. Back in March, I was also stopped and questioned after simply coming out of the bathroom at the Dallas airport.
I am not transgender. I am Two-Spirit and nonbinary, part of the broader trans umbrella. I have been doing LGBTQ advocacy work long enough that I anticipate experiences like this. I have the inner resiliency to endure them (which is not the same as them not having an impact). But not everyone does. For many, these humiliations can be frightening, silencing, even life-threatening.
This is not a minor inconvenience. This is humiliation. This is being treated as a potential threat not because of anything I had done wrong, but because of who I am, and because the system chose to erase my legal name because our government wants to erase me and all of us who do not fit into their narrow checkboxes. And it leaves me asking a very direct question: Has JD Vance, who also had a full legal name change, ever been asked to reveal his testicles to prove he is who he claims to be? Or is this kind of invasive “proof” only demanded of those of us who are Two-Spirit, nonbinary, or transgender?
Alisa Valdés story of being on a plane whose hydraulics failed as it prepared to land at LaGuardia hit me today (thanks Brian Weis for the share). The pilot told the passengers the truth: no wheels, no flaps, no brakes, no steering. They circled Manhattan and out to sea for four hours, burning off fuel before attempting a crash landing. And the cabin was silent. Not because anyone believed they were safe, but because they were suspended in that strange space between knowing and crashing, where hope carries you until the impact comes.
That is where the United States is right now. The hydraulics are gone. The airport has been cleared for our crash. We are circling, burning fuel, waiting. And too many of you are sitting quietly, hoping it will somehow be okay.
Trump now claims he is sending the National Guard into cities because of crime. But crime is down in every single one of those cities. What they are, instead, are the largest centers of resistance to his regime. And what happens when the government occupies the very cities where the most opposition exists? Do you believe that an administration that lied to justify occupation will simply walk away? Or is this the normalization of military control, one city at a time, while we sit in silence and pretend we are still in the air and not already falling?
The guidebooks for this path already exist. We know where this goes. The alarms are blaring. The question is not whether we will keep circling. The question is when we will decide to resist before the crash comes.
I know many of my family and friends out there voted for this man, this administration, and they go to churches each week that tells them this is holy. Well guess what - you are dead wrong, and more and more it is feeling like you are lining the streets and cheering while too many of us are harassed. So what will it take? How many of us will be executed or exiled from this nation before you start paying attention?
Because now that I am home, I can name that I will survive this event, but not without trauma. Because the truth is, heading into that back room to be processed yesterday, I had no phone, according to TSA no legal ID, and I could have been one of the statistics, someone who disappeared into the system and no one could have known. And I name this, I have never felt so relieved at the privileges I carry, my less-melanated skin, my education, and my ability to advocate for myself, and knowing those privileges calls me to speaking out louder and more forcefully against the rising authoritarianism in our nation.

Welp. It's up and running.
J K Rowling announces that she will be using her private wealth from the Harry Potter series to develop the J.K. Rowling Women's Fund, an organization dedicated to removing transgender rights "in the workplace, in public, life, and in protected female spaces"

and I am not going to transcribe the pull quote from her because I have more important things to do than type out her bullshit into alt text. Trust me, it's pure transphobic garbage from yet another person with more money than sense. It is not the first time Rowling has used her over $1 billion net worth to influence legal cases nvolving so-called women's sex-based rights — a dog whistle used by herself and other anti-trans activists to exclude trans people from public spaces and reduce women to their genitals.

She's so one dimensionally evil you guys how is she real

Tumblr user mintedwitcher: read this and remember it. read this and remember that she is going to use the profits of her fucking ego-stroking reboot to decimate trans rights. read this and remember that every time you pay into her IP, you are emboldening her to hurt us more.
our lives matter more than your fucking nostalgia.
trans lives matter more than your fucking nostalgia.

Pandemic and lockdown are not the same thing. Lockdown and measures to prevent the spread of contagious disease have ended, but the pandemic continues. Powerful people just decided to let some folks suffer and die for their convenience. www.wired.com/story/the-pa...
Although brain aging was seen universally among those living through the pandemic, only those infected went on to show measurable cognitive impairment, a symptom of Covid that has been documented in the past. The study found that those in the pandemic group who had Covid between the two scans experienced a drop in performance in mental flexibility and processing speed tests. In contrast, those who were not infected showed no significant cognitive changes, suggesting that structural aging does not always translate into visible functional symptoms.

Script for calls/emails to elected officials about ICE (and their collaborators) as secret police (see alt text)
Secret police are a well-known characteristic of authoritarian regimes. From Cromwell’s godly governors to the DDR’s Stasi, they typically target political opponents and dissidents through covert surveillance, imprisonment and physical violence. They use preemptive repression against threats to the regime.
In Uganda, Idi Amin’s State Research Bureau employed spying equipment and intercepted mail at the post office. In Syria, Bashar al-Assad set up the General Intelligence Directorate to oversee a network of torture centers. In Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro uses the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) to spy on opponents overseas, often running operations out of embassies.

Now the USA has a police force targeting political opponents and dissidents, even a judge and a mayor. It is not controlled by other security agencies and its director is devoted to Trump (Kristi Noem’s loyalty to Trump is as well known as her cruelty). The identity of its members and their operations are secret; they cover their faces, refuse to show their badges, and have no uniforms other than the casual wear similar to the costumes of most rioters on January 6. They carry out arbitrary searches, arrests, interrogations, indefinite detentions, disappearances and torture. We only know the victims who have become famous. There are nearly 50,000 victims of the so-called Homeland Security department.

All of the participants in this attack on democracy and basic human rights must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in order to prevent the rise of another authoritarian regime ever again.

Homeland Security Investigations includes an intelligence division, while ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations arm uses third-party companies such as Geo Group, Giant Oak, and Palantir to conduct mass surveillance. These companies are making profit from authoritarian oppression and their complicity in violating human rights must be investigated and prosecuted, too.

They did so because of what’s called the “just world model.” The “just world model” says that, if something bad happens to you, it’s because you did something to deserve that outcome. The just world model is attractive for two reasons. First, like all magical thinking (if you do this, that will definitely happen), it takes a world of inexplicable outcomes, a world we can’t actually control, and draws it into our control. It enables Emma to believe that something like police violence won’t happen to her because of what she does. [1]

Second, and closely related to the first, it says that we aren’t called to help the marginalized—the poor, ill, elderly, the victims of racism–, nor are we facing systemic injustice. The just world model is radically individual (which is why it’s so closely associated with neoliberalism). If you fail in life (or get cancer, or get shot by the police), it wasn’t because of larger issues of poverty, pollution, racism, or a police force indoctrinated to see itself as an army of occupation.[2] The just world model says we earned what we have, and are entitled to keep all of it.

The just world model is racist.

It may seem weird to say that it’s racist, since it doesn’t say anything about race, and neither Emma nor Hubert said anything about race. But racism isn’t necessarily about what you’re aware of believing—it’s often (most often?) about what you’re able to avoid thinking, seeing, or imagining.

Compare and contrast.
Two images, side by side

On the left, a tweet from the official Homeland Security account says "Remember your Homeland's Heritage [with weird German-style capitalization]. New Life in a New Land - Morgan Weistling" below the words are a picture of a young white heterosexual couple and baby in a covered wagon, a romanticized view of settler-colonists crossing the prairie. Their many possessions and supplies surround them in the wagon.

On the right, a Nazi party propaganda poster depicts a young white heteronormative family of five, all with blonde hair, with an eagle in the background. The words on the Nazi poster translate as "NSDAP: national community. Fellow citizens, if you need advice and help, contact your local group."

Script for calls/emails to Congresscritters about ICE impersonators who robbed a man in Delaware, and how secret police created an opportunity for crime (see alt text) democracy.io
https://www.delawareonline.com/story/news/crime/2025/06/30/men-in-ice-vests-rob-man-in-delaware-what-to-do-if-youre-pulled-over/84422610007/

A man was robbed by two armed, masked men wearing vests labeled "ICE" in Milton, DE on June 28. While traveling on Burton Road, in the area of Sand Hill Road, when a vehicle flashed red and white lights behind him, police said in a news release. The man pulled over and was removed from his vehicle by a person armed with a knife, while a second person pointed a firearm at him, one of whom later punched him and took his wallet, police said. Surveillance video and images are not yet available, but police said the people dressed in ICE vests were men wearing masks and dark-colored clothing.

Secret police who obscure their identities are a threat to everyone, whether they violate human rights directly or create an opportunity for crime. Every car on the road is a potential victim of ICE impersonators.

Do not let them rewrite history. They did *the opposite* of calling it out.
Screencap of twitter post showing ADL defending Musk's Nazi salute, with highlighter over the words "@elon made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute" and Musk's reply "thanks guys <crying laughing emoji>"

I mean they literally defended it and tried to gaslight anyone who saw it. DO NOT LET THE QUISLINGS REWRITE HISTORY.

Not only are the rich getting richer during the AI era, but many of the technology’s harms are falling on people of color and other marginalized communities. “Data centers are being located in these really poor areas that tend to be more heavily Black and brown,” Hanna says. She points out how locals have not just been fighting back online, but have also been organizing even more in-person to protect their communities from environmental pollution. We saw this in Memphis, Tennessee, recently, where Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI is building a large data center with over 30 methane-gas-powered generators that are spewing harmful exhaust.

Watch what they do, not what they say.
The administration’s moves against Food for Peace and the McGovern-Dole program pose a dilemma for the Republicans in Kansas’s congressional delegation. How can they save them without crossing the president? Senator Jerry Moran, Senator Roger Marshall and Representative Tracey Mann tried to save Food for Peace by moving it to the Agriculture Department, but the bills have never made it to a vote.

Mr. Mann did not respond to requests for comment, although Mr. Moran’s office sent a link to a Senate hearing last month in which Mr. Moran asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the two programs’ survival and called them “critical tools in the fight against global hunger.’’ Mr. Rubio expressed support for the programs but offered no solution on saving them.
