I'm halfway through a two month trial of working part time to help my health. It's not working as well as I would like and I'm looking at needing to take more time off. I'm really annoyed about this because A) I really like my work, B) I don't like not working, and C) I wish my health weren't bad.

Pre-Covid, I always thought the 1918 flu memories were just overshadowed by WWI. But now, it’s clearly something about pandemics that just do things to collective memory. I don’t know whether this is unique to modernity but it‘s clear that humans react differently to this type of trauma.

Purely anecdotal, but I used to get a cough each winter that would last months - since replacing our gas stove with induction several years ago, my lungs have stayed clear. I'm delighted but not entirely surprised by results of this study. We should not be burning gas in our homes (or anywhere).
