Crawling from the rubble, I pull the mask over my nose. Poisonous fumes seep in, reeking of sulfur and death. Twelve hands reach for my pack, scrabbling, scratching. Six maghouls eat the business end of my rifle. And I run. The interview's today. Nothing will keep me from my iced coffee.

bringing iced coffee to a job interview is stale. instead, bring a big earthenware jug with "XXX" drawn on the side. grow a long white beard. wear a straw hat and overalls. show up barefoot. toot the jug rhythmically. get a hoe down started. you will no longer care about being hired or not.

Wildfires are getting so large and severe and summers so hot and dry that some forests just aren’t growing back after burning. Recent research suggests up to 40% of Western conifer forests could transition to grassland and shrubland by 2100, taking significant carbon storage with them.
