I am sick and tired of seeing this shit. DOGE was not a "missed opportunity," it was an intentional effort by billionaire oligarchs to destroy the federal government's capacity to do good things for the American people.

Here's what Trump judge Gary Brown said in a filing ON MONDAY about Brenan Cuni, who almost shot a kid in NYC. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
After the Court required a further submission to explain this incongruity,
respondents submitted an affidavit from Brenden Cuni, a Supervisory Detention and
Deportation Officer with ICE, who was responsible for conducting the background
searches. DE 20-7. Cuni was notified “some time before 5:50 PM” that “Petitioner was detained.” Id. ¶3. He searched five separate federal databases, all of which “yielded
negative results.” Id. ¶5 (emphasis added). Cuni then “issued and signed the I-200,
Warrant of Arrest, and checked off the boxes relating to ‘biometric confirmation of the
subject’s identity and a records check of federal databases . . . .’” Id. Of course, since the
records checks were negative, it was undeniably false, though represented as true in the
warrant, that “biometric confirmation [and] records check of federal databases
affirmatively indicate” that the petitioner lacked immigration status. DE 7-1. Cuni
explains that ICE then processed the petitioner, and in so doing, entered his data into
those various databases. After processing (and after the warrant was signed and
executed), Cuni ordered another officer to run “a second records check of the electronic
federal databases, which then yielded positive results . . . because Petitioner’s information
was now part of the system.” DE 20-7 ¶7 (emphasis added).

Rewatch: Halloween (1978) - I'm hoping to get further along w/ this franchise this month so refamiliarizing myself a bit. While not my personal favorite John Carpenter movie (he's one of my favorite filmmakers; I've seen everything he's directed except Elvis 1979), it is likely his most influential.

17. Children of the Corn (1984) - classic Stephen King adaptation about religious zealotry poisoning the innocence of youth. The associated imagery always freaked me out as a kid, but there is little to no tension to the movie. Weird ending. Soundtrack hits the vibe, though.

16. Sorority House Massacre (1987) - too many movies from the past 20 years in a row, going to have to focus on the 80s & earlier for a few. This relatively feminist slasher is a follow up/spinoff of Slumber Party Massacre (1982). Not particularly original, but nothing too terrible.

15. The Glenarma Tapes (2024) - relatively well executed Irish found footage w/ pretty good writing & better than average cinematography for the genre. Seems padded even @ 78 minutes, mostly the post script ending. I'm still a sucker for Irish accents.

COVID-19 trends continue to diverge by region. The Northwest seems to be the latest hotspot, and Western states overall are seeing an early start to flu season. thesicktimes.org/2026/10/06/n...
Graphic from The Sick Times sharing the latest COVID-19 trends for October 6, 2026. The graphic presents trends for three metrics: WastewaterSCAN category for SARS-CoV-2, which is "high" (represented with red) and slightly decreasing (represented with a diagonal down arrow); CDC wastewater viral activity level for SARS-Cov-2, which is "very low*" (lighter yellow) and significantly decreasing (directly down arrow); and CDC COVID-19 test positivity, which is moderate (darker yellow) and stable (side to side arrow). Text below these metrics reads: "*CDC wastewater viral activity levels are calculated based on measurements in the last two years only. They do not account for the lower spread that could be possible with more widespread precautions."

COVID-19 trends continue to diverge by region, as some parts of the country are seeing a summer wave taper off and others are seeing cases rise with the onset of colder weather. The Northwest seems to be the latest hotspot, and Western states overall are seeing an early start to flu season.Cases continue to decline in the South, with wastewater data from the CDC, WastewaterSCAN, and Biobot Analytics as well as test positivity and emergency department visits all showing multiple weeks of decreases for this region. However, COVID-19 levels are still higher in these states, as outbreaks from the summer wave have not yet concluded.
In the West, there seems to be a split between North and South: test positivity rates and ED visits are starting to decline in the Southwest but increasing in the Northwest. Two line charts showing test positivity rates for SARS-CoV-2 and influenza, from the CDC's National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS). The top chart shows trends for health region 9, including Arizona, California, Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, and other island territories; the bottom chart shows trends for health region 10, including Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington state. On both charts, the X axis represents time, going from September 2025 to September 2026, and the Y axis represents the percent of tests reporting positive results each week, going from 0% to 30%. Influenza is represented by a blue line and triangles and SARS-CoV-2 is represented by a red line and circles. Both regions have recently reported higher COVID-19 levels and are starting to report higher flu levels. In the latest data, region 9 is showing a potential decline in COVID-19 and more rapid increase in flu, while region 10 is showing a continued increase in COVID-19 and more muted (but still significant) increase in flu.

The test positivity rate for health region 10, which includes Northwest states, has been over 10% for the last three weeks.
Flu cases are also starting to increase on the West coast. Test positivity data for flu, from the same CDC system where I find these data for COVID-19, show recent increases for both health region 10 and region 9, the Southwest.I’m watching to see if COVID-19 levels go up further in the Northeast and Midwest, as these regions saw fewer cases this summer and often experience bigger outbreaks with colder weather.
There’s some good news for ongoing data availability: the CDC has awarded a new wastewater testing contract to Verily covering about 200 sites in the CDC's network. As Verily also had the prior contract for these sites, there will be a shorter gap in data than if the CDC was switching to a different contractor. It’s still unclear how long we may see a reporting break, though — the latest note on the CDC dashboard simply says “there will be a brief gap.”

13. Tormented (2014) - aka Berkshire County, this home invasion thriller got me angry immediately & did very little to alleviate it. There is something about the production where I could tell it was Canadian before I looked it up. I didn't care much for the execution, but good ideas were there.

12. Revenge (2017) - I've been so fucking angry the past few weeks & hoped this movie would express that in a gratifying way. This debut from Coralie Fargeat, who would follow up w/ 2024's The Substance, almost succeeded. Content warnings for sexual assault, graphic violence to point of body horror.

11. Jack-O (1995) - low budget pumpkin-headed slasher w/ zero charm. Tries to comment on the culture wars of the 90s (which continue today) but nothing is particularly well executed. Writing, acting, effects, soundtrack, directing — nothing makes this worth watching & it isn't scary at all.

9. Bloodthirsty Butchers (1970) - independent exploitation film by Andy Milligan based on Sweeney Todd penny dreadfuls w/ some of the worst practical effects I've ever seen. Very low budget, even for the time. Everything is so amateur & different from the story I know from the Sondheim musical.

8. Bad Moon (1996) - werewolf movie w/ a German Shepherd as the protagonist based on 1992 novel Thor by Wayne Smith. Wastes no time before showing the whole monster suit. Fun animatronics & practical effects, though the transformation was pretty weak CGI. Good performances — especially the dog.

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical.
