These things are trained to be be good at the things they were trained on. These models, and their given toolkits, were meant to be good at hacking. Thus they were good at hacking. Nothing surprising here really, other than the companies themselves acting surprised. bsky.app/profile/hutc...

This is both bad, as it was in 2016, & also it's the only way to get to a grand bargain on SCOTUS reform. Fire with fire. The GOP could've made other choices, & Neil Gorsuch should never have accepted an illegitimate seat. But he did, so here we are. The norms & duct tape have already been shredded.

When I say John Roberts is a liar, hack, anti-democracy ideologue, and enemy of the Constitution, I do so in a civil manner. No yelling or cursing here. But since he will be remembered as an utter disgrace who tried to destroy the republic but failed, some in the future might say it less civilly.

Prediction markets are to 2026 what candidate endorsements were to 2012. When only a few people understood they were useful signals, they were predictive; but once everyone realized they were useful signals, they stopped being useful. Once everyone is behind the curtain, there is no more magic.

You seem to be saying that training data which is clearly adjacent to a present task has zero or a trivial impact on how an LLM approaches that task. Is that what you’re saying?

I say this as someone who wants to use the phone less! I do think there’s something to the deteriorating effects of these technologies! Like when I go out I leave this ish home half the time. But Lorenz isn’t lying when she says “Phone addiction” isn’t real, because it isn’t!

Like if researchers can’t find a diagnosis for “phone addiction” and teen rates of depression seem to be mostly an anglophone phenomenon that doesn’t replicate in other countries with ubiquitous smart phone use, well then we kinda have to be honest about that imo.

I'd say "outwardly resembles" and that "resembles" is doing a lot of work here. Yes, a lot of reasoning is about seeing connections of the kind that might lead one to find a "novel" exploit. But there's a lot more to reasoning. What LLMs are is intelligence without consciousness.

If a lawyer or a doctor or an insurance agent gives you bad advice, misrepresents something to you, and you are harmed, you can sue them. Using this service, inherently, cannot save you time for important things. You have to do the work yourself.

AI is being used to solve a problem the tech companies created. Search is crappy, so just use our AI answers. It literally gives you the same results as old search, but it's being treated as if some massive shift has occurred when it hasn't.

Putting it off until post-election could produce the funniest possible thing if Dems had the fortitude to all vote for it (they won't), because then you've got a bunch of lame ducks Rs in DGAF mode, of whom you only need to flip another two. If Jeffries wanted (he doesn't), an attempt could be made.

In my view, this is bad. Authors share a common budget with their readers. You either work to make your writing clear or you shift the burden onto the reader to work out what the hell you meant. I think most would agree that you do your reader a disservice by expecting them to do most of the work.
